When we did the initial round of hiring for the Department of Philanthropy in January, people were hired on as generic team members without specific duties. Since this was a developing department, I wanted to give people a chance to work into specific roles as time went on, based on their skills, interests, and the department's needs. Positions would later be created around the team members and the needs of the department. And now's that time! We're ready to introduce some new staff positions within the Department of Philanthropy. This announcement is not to ask for applications or to announce new hirings -- it is rather to make official a shift in duties within the department and the staff already present.

I've had a great time working with all of the Philanthropy team members these past several months. I am very happy with the work that has been done and all that we have accomplished! And now I am thrilled to be able to implement some more structure into the department, so that we can better tackle multiple projects at once.

Community Fundraising Coordinator - Tree - fundraising@tarvalon.net

The main duty of this staff position is to coordinate all revenue-generating projects for the site. This includes our summer fundraiser and fundraising done at events (raffle, da'covale auction, etc). This person is responsible for developing, implementing, and promoting all such programs, including handling prizes and assisting the Shatayan in tracking donations. This person will also assist the Shatayan in creating and sending end of year tax statements for US donors. Attendance at events is not required, but helpful.

Tree has done some amazing work at events in the past. Her experience on the entertainment committee US Anni events has given her the opportunity to already take on projects such as the raffle and da'covale auction. And her organization, enthusiasm, and creativity will be greatly put to use when it comes time for next year's fundraiser! Also, since Tree tends to frequent events and is already doing something for them, she's going to head up the charity drive/activity we do at each event (the book drives we did at the last Anni's, for example). This isn't necessarily a duty related to the position she's filling, but something else she's taking on for the team.

If you have any questions or ideas about/for fundraising at the Tower or the drives at events, please email Tree - fundraising@tarvalon.net

Membership Philanthropic Interest Coordinator - Branwyn - memberphilanthropy@tarvalon.net

This staff position is focused on promoting philanthropy with individual members. The biggest project this person will be in charge of is Servant of All. Once we get it up and running (we're working hard on it!), this person will be responsible for promoting the system, tracking all member reports, and updating the system as necessary. In addition, this person is in charge of our Helping Hands programs as they come up, including finding a coordinator for each program (or acting as the coordinator), and tracking members that have received aid. This person will also promote charity around the site on a more general basis, through raising member awareness of ways to give back to local communities.

Branwyn is one of the most member-oriented people I know. She goes above and beyond to help members when she can, and to make sure that people are getting by in times of trouble. I know she'll do excellent work in coordinating Helping Hands programs. Her awareness of and knowledge of non-profits and charitable activities will also allow her to head up the Servant of All system with great success!

If you have any questions or ideas about/for our member programs, please email Branwyn - memberphilanthropy@tarvalon.net If you wish to apply (or nominate someone for) Helping Hands, please still email me. I will forward it on to Branwyn after I have vetted the request.

Philanthropy News Correspondent - Ne'Mireth - philanthropynews@tarvalon.net

This staff position is responsible for the Department of Philanthropy's presence in the news. This person will write articles and announcements pertaining to Philanthropy programs that get published in the Tar Valon Times and/or the main site news. This person is also responsible for ensuring the Department of Philanthropy maintains an active monthly presence in the Tar Valon Times through member spotlights, charity spotlights, and other appropriate articles.

Ne'Mireth has formal experience in writing, which makes her an excellent person to fill this position. We have a lot of news requirements in this department, so I'm very happy to have her on board! Her enthusiasm for this position makes me confident that you'll start seeing interesting and diverse philanthropy-related articles on a regular basis in the TVT!

If you have any questions or ideas about/for Philanthropy articles, please email Ne'Mireth - philanthropynews@tarvalon.net

You'll notice that this isn't the entire Philanthropy Team. Though we now have specific jobs and duties for some of our tasks, the department still very much functions as a team. Some of our members, though they are integral members of the department, aren't necessarily fulfilling duties specific to one title, and so are still considered general team members. For instance, Kerna (as Tower Historian) has been hard at work fleshing out the Department of Philanthropy's pages in the Tower library.

I'd like to thank everyone in the Department of Philanthropy for their hard work! Congrats to Tree, Branwyn, and Ne'Mireth for your new roles in the department! :joy
