Ads in the mibbit hosted chat client

In the chat client that is lined on the site, there are sometimes ads that I really would like to not see related to TarValon, like a minigame at the top where you punch a woman in the face while she yells. Is there any way to make these go away outside of adblock software?

Yeah, and some of them also feature scantily clad women which makes being on at work...interesting at times. I don't actually think there's anything that can be done about it from a tower standpoint though.

I do often use another client. I just don't think that some of the ads I see on the client that most people will use by default when they get their first introduction to the tower should have some of those ads.

sorcerynet has a webchat app and there are no ads on it.

You can also download an ad blocker to your browser.

Downloading an ad blocker is not an option for some people, such as when I'm using a work computer. I'm not even allowed to download Chrome (so I'm stuck using Internet Explorer), let alone an ad blocker.

Don't really think there is anything that can be done about it though. Ads are at Mibbit's discretion I would imagine.

Yeah those ads do suck. Although I think we're mostly clever enough to follow that they have no connection to here. However, I wonder if a different client would be considered? There are many out there. In the name of taste, if nothing else.

We don't control any of those adds, in fact the mibbit page is not hosted on our servers at all (we redirect you to their widget).

The best option would be to put a complain into mibbit themselves.

As for another client: I'm not sure of any better ones. We can try a Java-based client but that has a lot of problems (like being blocked, required Java to be installed, etc.) If anyone has any suggestion please do post them, or email them to technology@tarvalon.net (and cc sysadmin@tarvalon.net as well, please). Can't promise anything but we'll check it out at some point.

Yeah, the really great thing about mibbit is that it works on almost every computer and connection out there.
