I think that this site offers us all an awful lot. I looked at it this way: if I were to pay for subscribed access to this place, what kind of monthly fee would I be willing to pay? If your answer to that is even $5, that adds up to $60 in one year. So, donating $50 is just around $4 a month... that's a phenomenal value, with no other "prizes" or "benefits" needed as an excuse to give. The fact that there are some of these incentives being offered is nice, and gives some people some focus for their giving spirit, but can hardly be called necessary.

I will be donating on payday as well. Not much since bills are swallowing Esteban and I, but as much as we can afford.

Aria, I agree on your "prizes"! Mine being my boyfriend. I am thankful every day that I have TarValon.net because I found the man of my dreams, and I have found family in the form of my Gray sisters and friends regardless of ajah/company/rank. That is my idea of a prize. As Mother said, people have been covering my costs on this site for so long. I have never been able to donate money to the site because of university bills, hospital bills, etc. But now I have the chance to donate, and I'll donate all I can. I greatly appreciate everyone who has kept this site running for so very long.

Nopers. Just the best. It's clear this person wanted to share, wanted to contribute, but didn't have much. But this person gave what they could, which makes it just as valuable as a donation 100 times that amount (Which we've gotten). IT's the exact same principle. Someone wanted to give. They loved this place, and they wanted to help out. And that is all we're asking for.

So. Thank you $5 dude. I appreciate the socks off of you.


To answer other questions.... The total that I've been updating is just paypal. I haven't heard of any checks we've recieved yet. If you've sent a check, give us time, we'll get to you. If the fund drive closes, and you sent a check, let us know so we can be on the lookout for it, and be sure to credit it when it comes in. shatayan@tarvalon.net

Aria Sedai and others, I love your comments about the prizes we get every minute we spend on these boards. The close friendships I've gained, the knowledge that I've got people to visit with in nearly all corners of the world, my Reds - all of that and more is a prize.

I will tell you a secret - when I buy stuff at auctions or win prizes in donation drives for the other sites I support, I always donate the tangible stuff right back and put it back into the site's donation or auction circulation. I don't want anything in return for my donations except to make sure the sites I love to spend time on stay around for me and for those who come after me. I want to be an old lady at TarValon.net's 50th Anniversary party. ^_^

I'm not 100% sure, but I think you have to be 75+ to qualify for true old-ladyhood, Niere Sedai. Sorry.

I definitely agree the fun & friendships far outweight any other prize. For me personally, the incentive listing just helped me figure out how much to donate. As did Kariada's post about how much it costs to run the place. Having never run a community like this, I don't usually think of how much it must cost to operate, so its helpful to me to see that kind of info. I love that we are ad free and don't charge membership dues. If I'm willing to pay $8 to go see a crappy 90 min movie, I definitely am willing to chip in towards our online home.

Riley - I think that is AWESOME there are folks donating any bit they can - cheers to the $5 donater :clap :clap :clap
If everyone donated $5, we'd have what, $4,500+ for the funds? That would be awesome!!

We have a challenge.

A member has informed me that he/she is willing to match any donations given today through Saturday (the end of the fundraiser period) up to the amount of $500.

So. If you haven't donated yet, or are considering it, you will be doubling your donation through this period.

We're extending the fundraiser!

To give everyone some extra time to get their donations in, and really take advantage of this generous donation matching offer, we've decided to extend the deadline of the fundraiser to Wed, July 28. All donations received before that time will be eligible for the prizes listed in my original post.
