Storyline (Re)Reading/Skipping

Does anyone else go through and just read a particular character's storyline? I've done this with Mat in the past. I've also skipped over Mat in certain books because RJ can sometimes drag things out. I was reviewing a CoT discussion, and it got me thinking about how to do this. There were times in the series when particular main character story arcs were incredibly boring, so I skipped the chapters. There was a time when I was about two books behind on what Mat was doing, but it was so worth it to keep engaged with the story.

I know that my first time through I had to stop myself from skipping ahead to see what happened with Perrin. I haven't tried that in any of my rereads but it's worth a go!

This is why I end up re-reading a lot of my favorite books, because the first time through I tend to fixate on some characters and skim over others. I was SO MAD on my first WoT read to realize the Seanchan were going to have a major role and I would have to go back and actually pay attention to the plotlines involving them, for example.

I have historically gotten so annoyed at Rand that I'd skip his chapters and then in the climax of the book I'd have to reread him all in one go. Not the smartest of ideas, I think that feeling is akin to finishign your essay with only intext references and doing the bibliography in one hit.

I read the whole series straight through, then again, and I think on my.... second re-read? I went through and only re-read the boys' storylines, then next time the girls' plot lines. I skip around and read through my favorite scenes.

Right now I'm doing an audiobook re"read" and it's too hard to skip ahead without missing things so I'm just letting it play.

I would be really cool to experience the series just from one character's POV, then another's and so on. I'm not sure I have the dedication for that though!

The last couple of rereads I completely skipped the pregnant Elayne/War of Succession storyline. It lends nothing to the story and Elayne's attitude just annoys me endlessly.
