Hello there,

I know this is going to seem a little out of the blue, but I was guided here as a possibility to find people to participate in a survey for a senior project I'm currently working on to get my degree as a counselor and specialize in sex therapy (basically couple's therapy, but also looking at ways a couple can rekindle their love life). But allow me to introduce myself first.

My name is Tim Bloom, and I was in the military for 7 years working as a mental health specialist. First as a social worker in a military jail in Germany, then as head of out-patient psychiatry at Walter Reed in Washington D.C. I currently am back in school working towards my Master's degree in counseling to return to do what I use to by helping people over come problems without the use of medication. However, aside from normal counseling, I'll be specializing as a sex therapist. In my free time, I work as a commission artist, having been in 2 art shows and being included in a German publication of short stories. In my spare time, I enjoy making costumes and caring for my coyote dog.

As for how I came to be here, I'm currently trying to gather data on my current research project that focuses on people's sexual attraction to fictional characters. The main point of the study is to prove that having mature feelings for fictional characters, whether they be human, monster, etc. is a perfectly normal event. As an artist, I believe characters are made to be likable and relatable in a variety of ways for each person. With that in mind, I have three goals/hypothesis about the subject I want to answer:

1. It is common for any sex and sexual orientation to have some sexual attraction to fictional characters
2. Regardless of mental or physical conditions, this is a common occurrence in people
3. Is the attraction more on physical appearance or personality

There's plenty about the topic that I would love to go into greater detail, and some of it is amazing how far back it goes in history, effecting many cultures in the process. However, I doubt an introduction page is the right place to do that at.

As for how I came here, my mentor, Dr.Al Sarno had a student who gave a presentation about TarValon in his class who is a member here. He told me, while it's a long shot, it was still worth trying here considering my current issue. As for my problem with my research, while I have plenty of men who has already filled out surveys, I have next to nothing with female data. Normally, I wouldn't come and post something that seems like spam, but again, I trust Dr.Sarno in his judgement. So while I don't mind joining for the activities from TarValon, I'm also hoping I can get help with my study. In accordance with the APA's Code of Ethics, all who participate are protected and any information will remain private and not be seen outside of myself and my mentor for guidance. All questions are at will, so if you are interested, know that if you care to not answer a question, you can leave it blank. If you're interested in helping me in my study, please email the project account at REDACTED.

Thank you for your time and have a great day!
-Tim Bloom

Hi Tim

Welcome to TarValon.Net!

You'll find we have many service members here, as well as psychiatric professionals.

I'm curious though.

First as a social worker in a military jail in Germany, then as head of out-patient psychiatry at Walter Reed in Washington D.C

Without an advanced degree, you were head of outpatient psychiatry at one of the largest veteran's hospitals in the world?

Also could you please provide some institutional background on your study, such as IRB approval, who your PI is, etc?

Thanks.

I'm not sure why your mentor got the impression we're reddit, but we're not. We're an online community - so yea, you kinda have just dropped some pretty suspicious phishing spam on our doorstep.

Can you give us more information on this study? Is it grant funded, and if so, can you give us that information? Largely those who solicit this sort of information drop some sort of google survey that's anonymous and go about their day. This seems a bit...more.

You haven't even shared which school you're in, what actual degree you currently hold, and which masters you're working towards, so it's all a little weird.

Some of the folks here are quite eager to be helpful. Then there are those of us who are skeptical of "Hi, I'm new. Tell me about your fantasies."

"Hi, I'm new. Tell me about your fantasies."

I, for one, am eager to tell the world about my dreams involving Padan Fain, Dain Bornhald, and a particularly sumptuous-looking meatball parm.

Hi Tim,

While we're always happy to see a new face, as several other member have noted here, your post contains a lot of red flags. You're welcome to e-mail myself, Sa'areah Sedai, Lireina Sedai, and Rhed Sedai to discuss this further, but in the meantime, we are removing your e-mail link and locking this thread.
