Overview
The Social Marketing Team (SMT) is responsible for marketing TarValon.Net to non-members and increasing engagement with our current membership through social media and other venues. The SMT will work with other staff on the site as needed, including the Graphics Development Team, the Tower Voices, the Department of Events and Conferences, and the Department of Community Outreach.
Of note, our current platforms include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and Tumblr. We are always looking for other ways to reach out.

Time frame:
This is a six month staff position within the Department of Marketing; once the term is complete staff members can choose to remain on board or move on as they desire.

The SMT reports to the Social Marketing Manager and the Director of Marketing.

General (Not all-inclusive) Task List
- Socializing and promoting TarValon.Net Inc through various social platforms
- Increase engagement with our current membership via social platforms and our own website
- Support of real time events such as JordanCon and DragonCon; this to include social media presence before, during, and after, as well as helping to organize our physical presence at the event
- Promotion and distribution of the Tar Valon Times
- Work with the Director of Marketing and the Social Marketing Manager to develop other methods to market our community to the public
- Work as a team to problem solve, brainstorm, and think forward about what the Tower needs
Qualifications
- Be a member in good standing; rank is no bar to my call
- Prior experience with social media, preferably managing a public-facing non-personal account, is a major bonus
- Ability to check in with the team and your assigned tasks at least once a day
- Must be flexible, creative, and able to pivot quickly with little guidance or notice
- Ability to work with a team
- You have any experience with business or non-profit marketing
- You enjoy spending time on Reddit and/or Tumblr
- You have experience with SEO best practices
- Your sass is class and you have time and inclination to show it to the world
- You are outgoing, sociable, and interested in taking on tasks to further TarValon.Net's external image
- You are familiar with conventions and what attracts people's attention there
