Up until now, members of our Legal Team have been appointed. We have never made an open hiring announcement for this position. Various members have come and gone through our team and everyone has had something unique to contribute. At this time we're looking to expand our group and Viv, Lireina, and I all agree that an official hiring is the way to go this time around.
Overview:
Being a member of the Legal Research Team is a consultant position within the Department of Administration that qualifies for the pro bono merit. This position reports directly to the Director of Administration. Legal Research Team members conduct legal research on a variety of topics including national and international gaming legislation, venue regulations, and intellectual property (particularly copyright).
This position is not a heavy time commitment. Some months we receive several requests and a few hours will be required one right after another. Some months there is no work at all. On average, I would say that this role requires 1-10 hours per month. Work is split between all Legal Research Team members and the Director of Administration, depending on the research need.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Do legal research for the administration when needed.
- Respond to requests for legal information (via the Director of Administration) from our members when needed.
- Be active and available when the need for research arises.
- Other duties as needed. Basically, a lot of "as needed" work to be done here.
Requirements:
- Be a community member in good standing,
- Must have been a consistent and active community member for over one year of any rank,
- Have a legal research and writing background: attorney, paralegal, law student, or other experience (please explain!),
- Strong skill in legal research with attention to detail,
- Excellent written communication skills are necessary (but English as a first language is NOT necessary), and
- Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.
Interested in applying? Send an e-mail to administration@tarvalon.net, keeper@tarvalon.net, and amyrlin@tarvalon.net with the title "APPLICATION - LEGAL RESEARCH TEAM - YOUR NAME" explaining your qualifications and why you are interested in joining our team. [STRIKE]This position has an open application deadline and members are eligible to apply for this position at will until I see fit to close this posting.[/STRIKE]
