The Department of Marketing is hiring! We're looking for new designers to join the Graphics Development Team.

Are you handy with Photoshop, Illustrator, or really any graphics program? Then please apply! We're looking for more graphically-inclined folk to help with projects both large and small.

SPECIFIC PROJECTS

For the first time, we are hiring designers for limited-term, specific projects; as well as regular, longer-term GDT staff. If you would like to apply for one of these specific projects, please make note of this in your application. If one of these projects listed below appeals to you, and you have the applicable skills, you’re welcome to join the team for the duration of this project only, if you prefer. Such projects can count as site contributions, pro bono work toward a Merit, and of course be used in your personal portfolio.

Servants of All badge system: this will be very similar to the Merit Badges. We need illustrators/designers to help with this project.

Official Ajah/Company logos: illustrators with high-level skills needed to help develop a cohesive new set that appeals to all groups.

Avendesora donor tree: skilled illustrator needed to finish designing the tree/leaves to honor TV.Net donors. Interactive/Flash designer also potentially needed.


Graphics Development Team Staff

Graphics Development Team positions are staff positions within the Department of Marketing. Position term length is six months. After six months, staff members may choose to remain on the team for another term, or to leave the team to pursue other opportunities (or 'real life'). The Graphics Development Team members report to the Project Manager and Director of Marketing.

The Graphics Development Team is responsible for any and all official visual assets used on or in conjunction with TarValon.Net. These may include anything from logos, banners, icons, and web work to printed material, advertisements, and illustrations. We are looking for several people with a wide variety of visual/graphic design skills. Let us know what you have experience in, and what your preferences are for projects.

The Graphics Development Team sometimes collaborate with each other on various projects, so applicants should be able to work well with a team of designers.

Duties

  • Create new visual assets for TarValon.net (may be web-based or print-based)
  • Update existing visual assets as necessary
  • Offer critique on projects (be able to give and receive constructive criticism and feedback)
  • Work with team members to brainstorm and troubleshoot ideas
  • Work with other departments within TarValon.Net to manage their specific design needs


Requirements

  • Must have been a member of TarValon.Net for at least 3 months.
  • Active on the boards/in chat on a weekly basis, at least. Available to communicate about projects, without disappearing unexpectedly. LoAs are fine, of course, but we need a solid commitment to at least regular check-ins so we don't leave other departments hanging.
  • Must be experienced in any or all of the following areas: graphic design, interactive design, typography, illustration, or visual arts. All applicants are asked to submit a portfolio of work with their application, either in the form of a personal website, Coroflot site, a Photobucket album, a DeviantArt account, or equivalent. If you have questions about this, please feel free to contact me.
  • Must own some form of reliable graphic design software, such as Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator, Paint Shop Pro, or other. (please specify)
  • Must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment, and be able to give and receive constructive criticism from other team members.
  • Must be able to work with a deadline.
  • Bribes in the form of good whiskey accepted by the Director.

Updated first post to reflect a new policy about term length! Graphics team staff now rotate every six months, just like TVT staff do. This means that, at the end of 6 months on the team, staff members can choose to stay on for another term, or to pursue other projects/real life/etc.

We have an entertaining and talented group of designers on our team right now, and I'd love to have you join us! Your work can span everything from official event logos, to shop merchandise, to graphics for social media like Facebook, to certificate/flyer/document design, and much more. The Marketing graphics team is responsible for developing quality visual materials for official use by our community, so designers are sure to have some challenging and fun projects to add to your experience and portfolio as an artist.
