Did you wear red on the 1st of February?
Do you love your heart?
Do you want to?

The Department of Community Outreach presents:

February is the not only the American Heart Association’s Heart Health Awareness month but it turns out it is the British Heart Foundation’s Heart Health Month as well! We figured over in the Department of Community Outreach that this was the optimal time for some awareness raising amongst our own members and a time to celebrate our own hearts. Plus, February is a season of hearts and love- why not also make is a season to love your heart!

Over the next three weeks we will be brining a series of heart health information and tips to our members through our educational thread in General. We will be challenging members to step up, step out, and generally get active to improve their own heart health in this Challenge thread in Health & Fitness. Finally, we will be posting daily lifestyle tips and challenges over in another Challenge thread in Home & Garden to present members with small and large lifestyle changes that they can make to show their heart how much they love it.

Additionally as heart health is so important we wanted to give everyone some links and information on how they can make a difference to research and outreach for healthy hearts in their own neighborhoods. Please ensure you take a peek at forthcoming thread with links and resources all over the world that can help you make a difference in not only your own heart health, but in the heart health of the community you live in.

This Valentines day join us in loving your heart for the whole season!
  • Take the challenges.
  • Learn more about your heart, and its health.
  • Wear the bling!

Also, we know that we have a few members who have had some very personal experiences with heart health and wanted to give the option to those with pacemakers and similar heart-boosting mechanics a chance to show off their hardware, if desired, and sport one of these very cool, slightly steampunk, pieces of signature bling!

I -just- had this conversation with someone very dear to me earlier today. I don't know enough about my heart or declogging arteries, and I certainly don't take well enough care of myself.

Thank you very much Tree!

We are just glad to be of service and to meet your interest Ty. Make sure you keep an eye on this thread too, its starting with some easy anatomy refreshers, but we’re going to talk about ways to keep your heart healthy and what the risks are to your heart if you forget to love it. I am sure you are not alone in feeling that you don’t know enough about your heart.

We all know cholesterol is bad and that we have blood pressure- but what does it all mean? How does someone having high blood pressure lead to a heart attack? What on earth is a heart attack anyway and are there any warning signs?
All questions that we hope to answer in the coming weeks- and more!

Working on the research I admit I sure learned a lot. Read along and if we have some trivia later, you’ll be a step ahead. :D

Thank you Niere. I think we have it under control now, but I will let you know. Also, we are accepting ideas for either of the physical or lifestyle challenges at outreach@tarvalon.net

In 2008 I had one of the worst days of my life, when my dad had a heart attack. He had a stent put in and is fine now (no heart disease thank goodness) but it really made me aware of the fact that it is very important to take care of your heart, even when you are young and you think you don't have to yet.

We only have this one body and life so we should all take care of it! Thank you for posting this and making it the focus for this month :)

Alora, that is a scary day indeed and I think too many of us have similar stories! That’s why I am so glad that we’re able to do this too!
You are 100% correct, it is never too early to start taking care of your heart!
