Sorry, bad choice of words. I remember the foreshadowing. Still, in my opinion the sword wielding was unnecessary, it would have had the same effect if she had actually channeled. What stroke me as worse, though, was the commanding earlier (Chapter 10 The Use of Dragons, from page 237 on)...
