If you're worried about your iron levels, I have found that taking an iron pill for a few days preceding the appointment is generally enough to see you to at least a 13.5 level.
It's still a little swollen. :look
Dnae! I have that problem, too. Put it on your phone calendar with an alarm?
Got turned down for 12.4 blood a few weeks ago. Donated yesterday and had 13.4. \o/
However, the nurse stuck the needle all the way through the vein, had to switch arms, and now my right elbow is swollen, hurts, and has an almost palm sized bruise. :(
Another donation a few days ago: great iron levels (14.6 as opposed to my usual 12.5!), but it was super freeeeaking painful this time, they had to switch arms most of the way through, and then I got nauseous. :x Irksome, but I'll be there again in 56 days to donate. :P
Event blood drives sound potentially awesome, and potentially really-not. :lol
Finally got 'round to donating again at the end of last month. And, as usual, I was just barely not-anemic. 12.6, when anemic is 12.5. :lol
