I'm not sure about when the relationship began, but I have just finished TDR and it Thom says he has only ever really loved twice, once was Morgase and the other some other name I forget, but he didn't say Moiraine. But then he could have been covering as he was talking to Mat at the time.

It still doesn't seem right to me for some reason, not everyone has to end up with someone. Although it is nice Moiraine being happy and not just married to her quest! I liked the Morgase/Tallanvor get together though!

Its a very old worldy way of speaking aswell. I didn't like the Thom/Moiraine thing, seemed a bit forced.
