Definitely read the book first. I've just rewatched the movie (you inspired me to!) and it is the most beautiful thing ever. And it's very true to the book. But there are probably at least fifteen ways that the book is better than the movie, and only exactly three ways that the movie is...
:lol Thanks Maple! And welcome to you (too)!
I highly recommend The Martian. The movie is AMAZING and the book is EVEN MORE SO MUCH HOLY PHWOAR BETTER.
Plus, Sean Bean is in the movie, for a particular scene, and hilarity ensues. :giggle ;)
Oh my god. Right now it would be The Martian by Andy Weir, or the Mars series by Kim Stanley Robinson. Pretty much any semi-realistic Mars-based science fiction. <3
Hi Corrine! :D I've always enjoyed study - for me, the risk is that I'll just keep doing degrees and never actually get myself a career! (I'm thinking Linguistics next :lol). At the time I went back to uni to do my masters, I felt stuck in a dead-end job and I would have done pretty much...
Oh that's brilliant! When do you finish your Chartered Accountant qualification? My friends who are already accountants tell me that audit is a lot of fun - apparently Audit and Tax are the two most popular areas, and coincidentally those are the two accounting subjects I have left to do...
Thanks, Locus Gaidin! Great to see you! ^^
I'm good, Loraella Sedai! A lot has changed since I last wandered these halls... I've returned to Australia, where I worked as a travel agent for a few years (rubbish job but the perks were awesome :look) and now I'm working in financial services...
THIS. Also, I just saw it again, in Gold Class, with one of my friends from work... it was BRILLIANT. Even though I kept hoping that maybe, just maybe, they'd made a "nobody dies" alternate version and just maybe they would show it. :look My friend kept laughing at me for covering my face and...
Thanks everyone!
Arie!! :tackle I missed you!!
Riversong! I have been wanting to ask (though I'm guessing that the obvious answer is the right one :look) - would I be correct in assuming you are a Doctor Who fan?
Well I saw it twice, once with my best friend and her 8-month-old baby (so admittedly half of the time watching the movie was spent keeping an eye on him, trying to make sure he didn't disturb anybody or crawl away :lol) and the second time with a friend who was in Brisbane to visit for a short...
Thanks, Mayor Zandera!
Regarding BOTFA: I freaking LOVED it. It transported me to places I had thought I'd never see again. It brought back feelings I thought I'd forgotten. It changed my whole life and brought me back from the practically-dead. It was MAGIC. <3
(Also, beards. :waggle...
Hi everyone!
I've been back on the boards (and in chat, of course) for a couple of weeks now (following my absence of, oh, 4-5 years?), just sort of testing the waters I guess, and now that I've been back for a while and am fairly sure I'm going to stick around for a while longer, I thought I...
