Stumbled upon this community when I was looking through the Great Hunt glossary and first noticed Moiraine was a Damodred and was looking for some Google answers to whether or not I had missed some indication in the first two books that Moiraine and Elayne were relatives. Glad to be here and thanks for the community!
As much for me to put down my fantasy path as for anyone meeting me through this post: Grew up going to children's theater productions, and I always looked forward to The Hobbit. Liberal viewings of Rankin's animated feature to tide me over, and eventually Tolkien's books and the Chronicles of Narnia were staples of my preteen library. Moved away from a fantasy focus in literature, but always had room.
My wife read through about 8 or 9 of the Wheel of Time books in the 'oughts, but I didn't bite then. My reimmersion back into fantasy novels was spurred by a hatred of Game of Thrones, for what the handlers of the IP's board games did to my all time favorite board game, BattleLore. Hate was strong enough to get me to slog through the first four books, wait a couple years for the fifth, and mirthfully celebrate the corrosive result that was season 8 of the show.
Became interested in watching Amazon's Wheel of Time with my TV buddy, and very much enjoyed the first few episodes (we're on episode six now, one per week pace), so I dove into the books. Halfway through Dragon Reborn, and very much looking forward to spending 3+ million more words in this world that Jordan built. Coming at it from a much healthier place than A Song of Fire and Ice, is probably the biggest reason for my enjoyment, but I really am enjoying what I read were the main faults: glacial pacing, large pieces with no plot advancement, etc.
As one can see from this post, I have no problem with going on and on with no particular destination in mind
