Yes, the intent is local events planned in our Local Events forum, which means that they're open to anyone who may want to attend.

A few weeks ago, Vallen visited Utah and I got several Utah members together (Winterdawn, Jermaine, Keisha, Asalyn, and myself) to meet her. I didn't post it in Local Events, but we did post pictures there after the fact. Does that still qualify?

That answers my third question. Thanks! Does anyone know the answers to the other two questions I asked?

What about Local Events that aren't really hosted by anyone, but involve people meeting at outside places in a city? How many people have to be present for it to count?

If there's no thread inviting anyone and everyone to join: it doesn't count as a 'local event'. I'm assuming that as long as there's a decent amount of planning going on and it's not just two people going back and forth saying "Hey let's go have fun at Panera." "Oh yeah that sounds good." "We can talk about _____" "Definitely!" - then it's good. I wouldn't say there's an official 'requirement' on how many people have to attend, because not all areas have the same amount of people and therefore it's not really possible to set an exact amount (case and point: Tree and I make up the entirety of Seattle Tower members), just that a decent amount of planning goes into it and it's obviously not being posted just so someone can get a merit.

As for hosting, since this is going in the "Local Events" forum, I'd say that if there's no real person that officially hosts the event, the person that starts it and/or does the most planning to get the event happening is called the host.

Admins are free to correct me, obviously, but that's my understanding from reading the merit page and from seeing how things have worked in the past years.

I have to agree with Jeffan's explanations..of course, I'm not the end all to be all on the subject..but we have planned events that although we invited up to 12 people ended up with 4 .. check the Massachusetts events in the local threads..we do a lot of planning and really try very hard for all of us to get together every three months .. we would like it to be more often..but since Bryse/Bryce lives in Connecticut, Autumn and Kalayani live in Maine and the rest of us are scattered all over MA itself, I think it's pretty good that we do get together as often as we can.

Umm... and concerning Official events, one more question. I know the Summer Euro last year was a local one, but were the previous ones official? (It's about the Globetrotter merit)

Given that last Summer Euro party was an oddity in how we plan, I am ok with it being considered an official event for these purposes. :)

Tree and I have met up ten or fifteen times in the area, but only one of them was a local event because we planned it in that thread.
When was that? I don’t remember planning anything so officially. :scratch

Mind you, I forget things from time to time, ya know... my old age and all... :look:

If someone identified an area where there was "gap" how would they go about suggesting a new achievement, or are these now fixed for a year or so trial period.

In order for it to be a Local Event that counts for the Local Events Merit, it must be planned in the Local Events forum. Whoever was the main organizer is the person who would get credit, unless there truly wasn't one, then no one gets credit. So Dwyn, if someone organized it, it doesn't matter where it occurred - we have groups who go to Ren Faires, camping, etc, and those all count as long as they're planned in the LE forum, and whoever organized it gets the credit. The Utah gathering doesn't count as it wasn't planned in the LE forum. As for Summer Euro, I'll have to discuss that with Eleyan and Seri.

Toral - email archivist@tarvalon.net with any area you think was missed or any suggestions and such. This is a work in progress, so things can still change even now.

Question mostly for the really old folks:

What if we had some Local Events (I'm positive I did, ages ago) on the old sandmashadar boards? I'm just curious, not for my sake, because I don't think I'd qualify anyway, but those boards were completely lost, so would just going off of integrity's sake work here?

Neisa Sedai, I believe that in those cases if you can provide a list of anyone who would have attended that can confirm the event then that would suffice.
