We had a meeting last night. There were a couple of things we wanted to share.

Formal TarValon.net title for Eleyan al'Landerin: Before we officially increased the size of our board from three members to five, Dralyn and I felt that, as a means of recognition for service from the "old" board to our Founding Amyrlin, we should bestow upon her a formal title. We thought of "Amyrlin Emeritus", or "Amyrlin Prime", but felt they were not Wheel of Timey enough. We had thought of "Daes Amyrlin" or "The Great Amyrlin", but we didn't particularly like it. During Jordon-Con Dralyn cornered Alan, the world's foremost authority on the old tongue, and asked him for suggestions. He sat on it for 12 hours or so, and brought back to us "Koyn Amyrlin". "Koyn" is the WoT equivalent of "Prime", meaning "The First Amyrlin". We loved it. Our first point of business last night was to gift that title to Eleyan, in recognition of her blood sweat and tears to make our community what it is today.

Secondly we formally seated Caerwyn Gaidin and Jaim Gaidin as members of the Board of Directors.

The final item that we felt should be properly announced was discussion and resolution concerning forum access for members of the board. In the past the three members of the board were also officers, necessitating forum access akin to our duties in the Tower. With the resignation of Dralyn as Tower Archivist, we now only have one officer on the Board of Directors, myself. However there are two aspects to our duties as board members that we felt should be addressed. The first is legal responsibility for the community, the second assessing the performance of the officers. The officers are hired by the board. It was decided that because of the necessity to adequately perform our duties as board members, board members will have read-only access to all forums. This will be revisited, and these needs reassesed as we add more seats to the board of directors.

Quick, lock the thread before the mob starts! D:

Also, does this mean Jaim is less or more reliable for gossip? :shifty

I'm probably beating the Board and Officers to the punch and being a bit pre-emptive. :look:

Please remember that this is an announcement thread - feel free to applaud, R&R, etc. However this is not to be spammed (excessively) or discussed here.

If anyone has concerns regarding the message board access of the Board of Directors as stated in this announcement, I urge them to please let the board know at board@tarvalon.net. This email will reach all five members of the board. ;) They are all valued members of our community for many years and reasonable people - so I am sure they will keep an open mind about any concerns voiced. :)

:trout Azi. More, of course. :fade

Sweet! Guess who's picking up an extra 6-pack next time I cross the border!

I mean. No spam. Right.

I do have a serious question, though not sure if it should go in an email. I'm sure all would be interested.

It was decided that because of the necessity to adequately perform our duties as board members, board members will have read-only access to all forums.

I think it would be wise to share the thought behind why having read-only access to all forums is a necessity to adequately perform all duties. Just for transparency, you know, and to pre-emptively answer some questions that are sure to come.

He also said that the needs will be reassessed.

Thank you for the update. *rushes to Library to update phrasing to Koyn Amyrlin*

I think that with the Board being, essentially, the head of TarValon.Net, they have the right to be anywhere and everywhere on the boards. They are not posting anywhere, nor are they reading all of the threads in private forums just for lawls. But what do I know?

So, I did a quick and dirty search online for "Koyn" and "wheel of time" and didn't find it. How are we pronouncing it and where in the series/supporting documents have we seen it?

I'm mentally saying it like "coin." :look:

I read it as KOH-ihn.

Also, I think Alan has a lot more Olde Tongue in him than the internet does. :P

That just means we can bad-mouth them in our private forums because they can see it. BEST thing though is that they can't respond.

Here I believed they already had access and were now moving to 'read only'. :)

Love the new title!

Love the new title! Also curious on its proper pronunciation. I immediately thought "coin" in my brain, but I could see it "koi An" too.
