Hi all! I'm a long-time Wheel of Time fan and somehow just recently discovered this site. I have read the entire series a few times, and several of the books a few extra times out of order. I've also been following every tiny hint of a tv series for many many years and I am SO excited that it is finally happening. I am re-reading the series again (after watching the first season a couple times and every interview I can track down).
Answers to some questions:
Who is your favorite character in The Wheel of Time and why?
I love so many of them! I can narrow it down to a top group: Perrin, Mat, Tuon, Bayle Domon, Cadsuane, Verin, Bair, and Loial. Also TV-version of Lan and Nynaeve. All of them for SO many reasons but a common thread is their strong personalities and sense of self.
How did you find TarValon.Net?
I love cooking, and my current focus is finding (and creating) real-life recipes for foods in World of Warcraft. I got the idea that I should see what WoT recipes are out there, and one of the Library posts came up. This definitely feels like a place I should be a part of.
What do you do? (student? job? hobbies?)
I like to say I'm a professional fortune teller - I do budgets, financial analysis, and risk management for a private nonprofit university. I love my job. I also teach Excel to the Advanced Accounting class at my school in the spring. (if anybody needs Excel tips feel free to hit me up!) On the weekends I work for an organic farm at their farmers market booth.
I dabble in a LOT of hobbies. (Thanks ADHD!) My current focuses are World of Warcraft, bonsai, cooking, baking, food photography, mixology (especially making infused vodkas), and working on writing a cookbook focusing on recipes from fantasy worlds. I love learning things and consider myself a collector of knowledge.
Other things I do sometimes or have done: crochet, reading (especially fantasy / sci-fi / cookbooks), gardening, hiking / backpacking, rock climbing, belly dance, playing Japanese Taiko drums, crossword puzzles (NYT is my favorite), playing D&D, cosplaying at anime conventions, traveling, singing, botany, and probably more I don't remember at the moment. Did I mention I love new things?
Where are you from? What languages to you speak?
I am from Portland, Oregon (USA) and primarily speak English, although I speak a bit of Spanish and Japanese. I have also lived in Arizona, Utah, and Indiana.
What is your favorite book or author other than Robert Jordan and The Wheel of Time?
Probably Anne McCaffrey, I love her Pern series. Also Brandon Sanderson, Terry Pratchett, and Isaac Asimov.
So ummmmm I hope that isn't way too much. I'm happy to be here.
