As I'm sure you have all heard by now, disaster has struck Japan and the Pacific. (If you are still getting caught up, check out Google's Crisis Response page.)
At times like these, the support of individuals can help save and rebuild communities. And so, we encourage you to reach out and help. There are many organizations that will begin relief efforts. We have decided to support the Red Cross, not only because of the work they consistently do throughout the world, but in particular because they are collecting money for both Japan and for Pacific islands affected by the tsunami.
We are starting this off with a $200 donation from TarValon.Net to the American Red Cross, specifically to aid relief efforts in Japan and the Pacific. This donation is coming from our general Tower funds.
Please consider joining us, and contributing to this organization as well.
How you can help
You can donate online through the Red Cross:
American Red Cross
Canadian Red Cross
British Red Cross
Finnish Red Cross
New Zealand Red Cross
You can donate through text, which will add the appropriate amount to your next phone bill:
America - text REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10 (details)
Canada - text ASIA to 30333 to donate $5 (details)
Please also considering donating blood, if you are eligible. I know that the American Red Cross at least is not yet collecting/sending blood to Japan, because it has not been requested. However, if/when assistance is requested, blood will be needed. Blood is always needed, so even if your donation does not go to these efforts, it will help someone, somewhere. Details on donating blood can be found at the following:
American Red Cross
British Red Cross
If you would prefer to donate through the Red Cross organization of your specific country, please post with that donation page, and I will add it here. I don't trust my language skills to navigate correctly to the donation pages of other countries.
And lastly, you can use the following sig icons to show your support throughout the boards:
Thank you, everyone, for helping us to show support and aid those in need. :grouphug
