So on the one hand I'm very excited for Leora Sedai who has had some wonderful career opportunities and additional responsibilities come her way lately. On the other hand, this means that she doesn't have the time to devote as Keeper as she would like and so has tendered her resignation to the Board of Directors. It has been an enormous privilege to work with Leora over the last year or so and to finally get to know her as more than a name and avatar and someone I met once at a party :P I know she does amazing work and can't say enough good things about all the wonderful things she's done for our Community and for me.
But this means that we are searching for a new Keeper to take up the mantle. Because it's been just a couple years I'm going to pretty much copy and paste Dralyn Sedai's announcement so this may sound familiar to some of you. We'll be accepting applications through March 21, 2013 and like we said for Shatayan, this position will also entail a credit/background check.
Description
The Keeper, legally known as the Chief Operations Officer, handles the duties as outlined in the Bylaws for the Vice President. The COO is also responsible for running the administration and making sure that it is efficient, effective, and coherent.
Requirements
What matters:
Must currently be a Senior Member in good standing.
Must have been a Senior Member for at least two years.
Must know how to use tactfulness, discretion, and diplomacy.
Must have previously served in the administration in some capacity.
Must be active within the community.
What doesn't:
Your gender.
Your nationality.
Duties and Responsibilities
Officers are responsible for a broader, more nebulous set of things that don't lend themselves well to a bulleted list. The Keeper/COO is the front face of the administration within theadministration and is responsible for making sure that the administration is focused towards enacting the vision of the organization as a whole. This position works with all Directors to make sure that the individual Departments are moving towards the goals of those Departments as well as working together to provide a cohesive experience for our members. The Keeper is the main point of contact between the Departments and the Officers and Board of Directors.
This position involves a lot of paperwork and administrative oversight. It's reading and responding to monthly reports, it's talking with Directors on a regular (sometimes daily) basis, it's answering phone calls and texts and emails in a timely fashion, it's regular meetings on Skype or IRC, it's accepting that there will be times when you will be spending more hours than you thought you had in a day working on emergencies, it's being willing to step in and perform any position's duties temporarily.
This position requires a constant, active presence. With the reduced load, I think expecting to spend 15-20 hours a week is accurate, though some weeks it will be less and some weeks it will be more. Travel may occasionally be required, though that happens rarely and is often covered by the organization.
How to Apply
To be considered, send an email with the subject line "APPLICATION-KEEPER OF THE CHRONICLES-YOURNAMEHERE" to board@tarvalon.net and amyrlin@tarvalon.net If you have any questions about the position please feel free to email me at amyrlin@tarvalon.net or Leora at keeper@tarvalon.net. If you're attending Anni this weekend you're also welcome to pull me aside to talk about it there.
Again, all applications must be received by March 21, 2013 and we're looking to have the individual chosen by the 1st of April.
Thank you again Leora for everything that you've done! I look forward to seeing who applies
