So this is a bit weird, but it's worked twice for me so far. During the PG Death Match, I was trying to switch to the Twins' avatar. I did all the steps, deleting my old one first, etc. It wouldn't come up. I opened the avatar with MS Paint, put one tiny dot on the avatar, saved it under another name, and when I uploaded that one, it worked! Last night, I thought I had my holiday avatar uploaded, but when I got up this morning, it wasn't showing up. I opened it, put the tiny dot on there, saved under another name...And it worked *again*. I have no idea WHY this is working, I just know it is.

I've got my method for changing it, works everytime. Note that Firefox works the best for this, I've found:

1) My Account > Edit
2) Delete avatar
3) Go back in to Edit, upload avatar
4) You may still see your old avatar there, ignore it
5) Go to your user profile, and press Ctrl+F5 (force refresh). Alternatively, clear your entire browser
cache.
6) Bingo

It may be because Drupal doesn't update the avatar image's date on the server, so the browser thinks it's the same file and doesn't download a new one. I don't know though, because I haven't tested that myself :P

I've got the same problem as Sam described in the openings post. Here's my original avatar. I tried changing it after the Zombie-themed thing, but it just disappears.

Oh, and I do usually take all the steps Azi lays out, it's not that. I've tried changing it in four different ways, now.

I just tried changing the file name of the avatar. It was saved on my hard drive with the name the forums generate. When I changed the name, it suddenly worked. No idea if this is actually the solution, but you might want to give it a try, Sa'areah Sedai.

I have deleted my avatar countless times now, and it keeps coming back.

I found at Halloween that if I let it stay deleted for a few hours, THEN added in the new av (110x169).

I've done the whole clear cache and shift-F5 but it won't stay deleted.

Side note: My av looks normal to me, and I thought I successfully changed to the norm. However, Serenla's computer seems to still have my Halloween av... :scratch

Can I say that this is incredibly frustrating?

To answer some of the Avatar questions - Remove your avatar. Log out and then log back in then add the new one. If the Avatar won't load properly -whether new or the old avatar- wait 2-3 days for the Site to clear its cache (its not always the users cache but the php cashe that is connected to the Drupal/Website).

Sit without out it for a while and try again. It will work eventually.

Alright...

I tried to put it up in my control panel only to find I'm not allowed to change it there (wonder if that's the issue?) I went into My Account, deleted my old one and tried to upload my feast of lights avatar (http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m160 ... lights.jpg) but no luck. I tried all the tips in this thread (other than waiting it out) and still no dice.

I'd appreciate any help in getting my face back. Preferably my seasonal one if at all possible. Thanks so much for your time lovely Aes Sedai and super Gaidin! :curtsey

I've been working for over half an hour trying to get my FoL avy up...all I've accomplished is getting my face deleted I try uploading the FoL avy, and it looks like it takes, but then it...doesn't.

Works a lot better in firefox, too, btw :P I found Chrome *always* effs it up, but I can get it to work reliably in Firefox every time now, with these instructions:

1) My Account > Edit

Nothing works (logging out, ctrl-F5, etc.) And unlike Kitan I cannot even delete my normal avatar :cry
