A close friend told me about the series.
My freshman high school English teacher recommended Eye of the World as the book that I do for my group project at the end of the year.
The rest is history.
Now I'm just imagining you there, wondering if you're about to have to flee through the woods because this woman half your size is talking about being part of some weird cult with bonding rituals.I was on a hike in the woods, as part of a date I was on, on a peculiarly warm day in the winter of 2020. She had mentioned she was bonded to someone without much explination and showed me a serpentine ring. I remember thinking…so your married or something? In early 2021 after a camping trip, we stopped at a book store in my old college town and she suggested I get the first book. And here I am today!

This sounds vaguely familiar lol…

I really like that story… I wonder if anyone here on the website has started in the middle of the series and read out of order? I don’t know why someone would do that but I wonder if someone has?I was on a family summer vacation in Maine one year during my early teens and found The Fires of Heaven on sale for I think it was something like three or four bucks. Hardcover. Complete with the dust jacket that misspells Elaida's name, in fact (do the later print hardcover dust jackets still do that? LOL).
I think I read the prologue a time or two but couldn't really get into it at the time due to it being, yanno, the fifth book and all
Then I'd end up revisiting the series a time or two in the next several years, especially when the D20 RPG came out, and I started getting the rest of the hardcovers during my early 20s (at which point I found Wotmania and also a #wot IRC channel, believe it was on Undernet at the time). Think I saw the early formation of TV.net in passing around that time too but didn't feel up to joining at the time (who knows why? LOL), eventually in 2006 I found myself on the Sorcery IRC where our old main chat was and the rest was pretty much history, as they say.
Family is always a good source of suggestions! My mom and aunt had both read it, but neither actually loved it. I heard them and grew interested and read NS when I was ten. After that, I read all the others and really loved them.
