Unfortunately the RL monster has claimed Aintza and we find ourselves in search of a new Editor. The focus of the Times is still going to shift from what we have previously done, you'll find more details in this thread.

The Tar Valon Times Editor is responsible for the publication of the Tar Valon Times on the site blog, as well as the maintenance of its pages in the Library. They are the direct point of contact for the members of the Tar Valon Times Team and report directly to the Director of Marketing. They track all blog posts/art for publishing as well as supporting the staff and helping to come up with new ideas for the blog.

This is a non rotating Administrative position in the Department of Marketing. Time served as Tar Valon Times Editor counts towards the Administrator Merit. If you have any questions about this position please contact Siera al'Cere at marketing@tarvalon.net.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage and maintain Tar Valon Times Staff.
  • Call for, receive, and edit as needed all articles and other compositions by reporters for the blog. Communicate with staff throughout the creative process each month, to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Publish the Tar Valon Times on the blog.
Expectations
  • Be aware of important site, Wheel of Time, and other related news that bears coverage in the TVT.
  • Come up with new concepts and ideas for the TVT to keep content and format fresh.
  • Announce and encourage readership of each issue of the TVT on the boards.
  • Collaborate with the Social Media Manager to ensure blog posts are shared through social media.
  • Communicate regularly with the Director of Marketing about progress, issues, and needs of the TVT.
Qualifications
As always, if you don't meet these qualifications but are interested in applying anyway, please do so!
  • Must have been a member of any rank for at least 6 months.
  • Must be able to write clearly in English with acceptable grammar and spelling.
  • Experience in writing/editing, preferably in a journalism setting, either online or in 'real-life' experiences.
  • Must be able to stay on task and commit the necessary time each month to ensure the blog stays updated.
  • Must be able to regularly and frequently check the Editor email.
  • Bonus: Knowledge of Wiki coding, or the ability to pick said working knowledge up extremely rapidly, familiarity with the site Library is preferable.
Time Commitment
  • The successful applicant must be willing to spend a few hours per week on this position*. The ability to check the Marketing and Tar Valon Times boards & Discord on a regular basis is a necessity for this position.
*With the shift in the Tar Valon Times blog and how it is published and our decrease in the amount of content we may push, this is very flexible and could have more or less hours.

How to Apply

To apply for this position, please send an email with the subject “APPLICATION - TAR VALON TIMES EDITOR - YOUR NAME” to marketing@tarvalon.net and keeper@tarvalon.net detailing your interest in the position, any relevant journalism/writing/art experience you have and why you would be a good fit.

For those who have not been members of the Tar Valon Times please include samples of your written work. Former TVT Staff Members do not need to provide samples unless they would like to.

Please submit your application to marketing@tarvalon.net and keeper@tarvalon.net by April 22, 2023.
