I've recently overcome a years-long physical reading slump. I read one hour a day at minimum, and it's helped me so much mentally beyond just overcoming the reading slump.

But, I can feel my mind working on mentally readying myself to read Rhythm of War in the background. The problem is, I've read the other three in audiobook format. Even before the slump got that bad, the width of the books were intimidating.

But, I think I can do it. I did read the Wheel of Time before Audible existed, after all.

It's important to me to read Rhythm of War as it sits on our shelves before the next book comes out. So, my plan is to read the first two books of the series that I'm currently reading, then start on RoW. I am amenable to splitting it into sections if needed and coming back to it.

Can I get some help from y'all via memes and general fan chatter about these books to get me in the right headspace?

I don't have an memes on hand (but will do a search after I eat lunch) and my memory of reading the current totality of Stormlight is a blur because I said I'd read stuff in between the books but that was a lie and I powered through those bricks one after another just like I powered through the totality of WoT one after another because I was so engaged in the story and wanting to know what happened. Being on Twitter and sharing my reading experience as I went along really helped because I'd been brought into the WoT/Cosmere fold so that helped make it fun. I love seeing others reactions to things as they go along and knowing their thoughts! It's a fun way to get hyped and motivated.

These are chunky books and I was intimidated to where even though I had Way of Kings on hand but read Mistborn first because it was a lot less bulk. They are a fast paced journey without a particularly long slog to bog things down

I did attempt to read WoR when it first came out on audiobook. I'm going to just start over, but I do remember Jasnah's world-building scene's came off as really dense and too sci-fi at the time. It's stuff like that that I'm worried about.

Also, Ignis reminded me I need to read Dawnshard. But that's a widdle one.

Yes, read Dawnshard! That one is my favorite novella and I liked it's story a lot more than Edgedancer

Well, that's good motivation, because I loved Edgedancer.

I'm afraid I have to warn you that Rhythm of War is one of my least favourite Sanderson books :look: I found it way too technical and most of it is setup for the next book, which obviously haven't happened yet. Something big happens in the middle, then the rest of the book is stalling for time. And a lot of science is happening, most of which doesn't interest me...
That's probably not motivation, but I don't want you to be disappointed when you do start reading... Think of it as Path of Daggers, or Crossroads of Twilight. But I hope the next book makes this one better!

I'm planning to do some re-reading (still haven't decided if just RoW or more) at some point before the new book comes out if you want a reading buddy!

Currently reading Dawnshard. It's so tiny and cute!!

Also, it appears that so much has happened in my life since the last time i read this series that i forgot that Navani is the science nerd, not Jasnah. :look:

I read Dawnshard along with my current read last night. Dawnshard is such a cute little guy. But, I'm also proud of myself that I can read two physical books in one sitting again.

Hey, so question for my buds who have responded here.

How do you pronounce these insane Thaylen names??

Rysn, babsk, Vstim...okay, but there are names with like...4 consonants all next to each other. Like, Captain Drlwan. How....?????? Has anyone read the audiobook and heard her name pronounced? There were others that threw me off, but hers is the one I can remember the best right now.

I just pronounce them as they look but the only one I'm absolutely certain of is Rysyn being Rizz-ihn. I've said before I wish there was a companion book for the Cosmere like there is for WoT with info and pronunciations but that would be impossible since it's still ongoing and far more vast than WoT. It's have to be like 50 volumes

I can move past them after the first time, but they're pretty jarring the first time I see them.

Pretty much this. Or my brain just goes "ah that familiar letter group" and skims right past it without attaching a sound to it.

Honestly, that did help.

So, I'm 10% into RoW! I actually went back into Audible and discovered I was in Chapter 31 before my ADHD said nah. I'm about 1/3 there, I think.

I'm wanting to take the Knights Radiant quiz again. I got Edgedancer last time, and just...no. I am a Lightweaver, and I need the quiz to confirm. Or something.

ETA: Just took it again, and got Edgedancer again. I'm a Lightweaver in my heart. Don't mind me, the coffee is kicking in.

I am an Edgedancer. I like it, better than being a Windrunner, or worse, a Skybreaker! I think those were next on my list...
