I have a question about NaNoWriMo (from a newbie who has never participated, nor really done any creative story writing since the fourth grade :look:) - do you normally go into NaNoWriMo with a basic plan already in mind for your novel, or do you kind of make it up on the fly throughout the month? Have you ever started NaNoWriMo with absolutely no idea whatsoever what you would write about?

You can do either :) Some people plan all year, others just wing it and see where the story takes them.
I would imagine that is a lot easier to do for Fiction than any other genre though :p

I typically know: what the story is, who all my characters are, where it starts, and the overall direction it should go. I find that if I overplan that I lose some of my creative energy. But I almost also do all of my writing in my head, so I know for an upcoming segment/chapter what is happening before I sit down to physically type it out. That being said, I know a lot of people who do thorough outlining and storyboarding before writing anything. It's all a matter of finding out what your personal writing style is.

Hope that helps some. :)
