For those of you who have seen the Admin meeting discussion, you have have seen that the Board had planned on expanding from the current three member panel, to five members. Having five members instead of three allows us to have a broader range of opinions and experience to draw on when we consider matters that have legal implications to our site, as well as a bigger brain to pick when we consider hiring officers in the future. It really gives us a more balanced approach when it comes to those matters that are the Board's to consider.
The choosing of members of our Board of Directors is no light matter. In a very real way the Board of Directors is the legal entity behind TarValon.net. If someone were to engage our community in a lawsuit, they would be, in essence, suing the Board of Directors. Also, because we are the group that hires and terminates officers, we are responsible for the shape and direction of our community, as enacted through those officers. Because of this careful consideration is given to those individuals that would hold that responsibility.
I am very pleased to announce the addition of Jaim al'Bearach and Caerwyn Jolan. I have known these gentlemen for a number of years now, and I have nothing but the utmost respect and admiration for each of them. They are both mature, responsible men, who have both shown they are more than willing to work hard when hard work is called for.
Jaim Gaidin has been in the adminstration of TarValon.net in varying capacities. This allows him insight into how we operate and work. Additionally he has been a long standing member, and has seen how we have changed and grown over the years, and I feel understands our community and it's needs in great detail. While he is still, technically, Company Commander of Dai M'Hael, at least until his replacement is found and trained, after that time he will not be an adminstrator. We feel this is greatly advantageous for the Board, and for the community as a whole. Furthermore, while he currently lives in America, he is European, and we feel he would be able to give the Board as a whole insight into the needs of the European Tower community, as well as be a voice for them.
Caerywn Gaidin is a man I personally have a great deal of respect for. He is mature, intelligent, and has a profound desire to see this community grow and prosper, and has worked during his years of membership to see this happen. Interestingly enough, he has been able to make these contributions without having been a staff member or adminstrator. He provides not only his incredibly sound judgement, but a perspective from outside the administration of TarValon.net. Additionally he brings in experience of having served on the Board of Directors of other organizations, as well as experience in the professional/business world which will be invaluable. All that holds a great deal of credibility for me, but what speaks to me even more is his joy in digging and helping out, even when it isn't, technically, his job to do so. I cannot count the times he has pitched in and helped me out in the kitchen at Anni's, and he has never been on my team. He did it because he loves to serve. Also, he drove someone down the mountain from our Estes Park Anni location, at night, in the middle of a snow storm, to drive him to the emergency room. The man's a hero. In many ways.
Please join me in welcoming my two friends, Jaim and Caerwyn, onto the Board of Directors of TarValon.net. They will be officially installed when the Board meets within the next two weeks.
