So, I am looking to start a new 5th edition campaign. Specifically, I will be running the "Curse of Strahd" adventure which should take the characters from level 1 to level 10. Games will take place on Sundays starting at 2:00pm CST and going until 6. I expect to meet every other week. I would like between three and six players. Most D&D adventures are scaled for 5 players but I can work around that to a degree. But with more players we have the longer encounters and play tends to bog down.

Some Caveats:
1. Potential players will need access to D&D Beyond and maintain their characters there.
2. Potential players will need access to discord.
3. We will most likely be using theater of the mind style of play.
4. The campaign will start with level 1 characters from the Player's Handbook and Xanthar's Guide to Everything.
5. Players may also use the Haunted One background from the adventure if they wish.
6. "Curse of Strahd" is Gothic Horror and is well creepy. Be prepared for at least the occasional surprise.
7. Campaigns can go on for a long time. Seeing that we are playing every other week it could run for sometime.
8. If you are interested but haven't played a table top RPG before, feel free to reach out and we can talk about how it all works.

Note: I do not plan to use Roll20, primarily because I own all the content already at D&D Beyond and can share it with players who attach their characters to my campaign. It also has online tools that will make things easier. Unfortunately, to get the same effect in Roll d20 I would have to buy all the content for a third time and that is to say the least less efficient.

I'd like our first meeting to be on November 15th. Generally the first session, is about finishing character ties and establishing backgrounds. We can also use that time to help people out with character creation. Its OK for people to miss some of the games. As adults we frequently have problems with scheduling.

But I ask that you try to attend most of them. Those of us who do miss a game, will still get XP for it. I don't want anyone falling behind the power curve just be of a logistical issue. If anyone misses too many games we may have to add an additional person or two, just to make sure that we always have enough for a a full party.

Other than those things, I do not have too many requirements. I'd like to have an all Tower party, but if need be we can flesh things out with members of my normal gaming group. I plan on leaving the initial slots open until Saturday the 7th, at which point I will begin speaking with the usual suspects about filling in vacant seats.

Due to the small number of people who can participate, it will be first come, first server. Please respond to this thread to let everyone know that you would like to play and then send me a PM so we can discuss specifics.

I'm interested! :sword

I've played a handful of times, and only a couple of times recently, so I may still need some assistance. I still would say I'm a newb, a newb with some knowledge. :look:

I do know when I played last I noticed there were more options for things than I remembered. I do have a D&D Beyond account already!

So, while her schedule prevents her from attending full time we will be joined by Jahily as our special guest star.

But for right now 3 full time slots remain open.

Color me interested. Though the problem is I'm trying to set up my own game, plus I'm unsure how to use D&D beyond over the phone.

Its just a web page. I love to use it on my phone because it formats everything. Now, I haven't created a character over the phone. I've only accessed them. So that might be more difficult than I imagined. But if you can set up an account and create a character I can fill the rest out for you. I think you just need a name, class, and level. I definitely get time being an issue, especially if you are running your own game. Assuming, you are unsure as to time constraints I will definitely keep you on the stand by list.

Oh, a few clarifications because I just realized I used more gamer jargon that I thought.

D&D Beyond is the official tool and ebook site for Dungeons and Dragons. It is free to create an account. Once you create an account you need to start creating a character, but that really means name, class, and level. At which point you can assign the character to my campaign and then you will have access to all of the material I have already purchased. If this seems like alot, we can go through the process together.

https://www.dndbeyond.com/

Theater of the Mind means that by default we will not be using miniatures or maps. Traditionally D&D is played in that fashion. Theater of the Mind means that everyone uses descriptions rather than grids to explain their character's actions. Pretty much every other RPG uses Theater of the Mind so it can definitely be done. To a certain extent this is an engineering problem. If I can find a way that works for all of us to easily use maps we can talk about the benefits of playing in that fashion.

Finally, even if you have never played D&D or any other table top RPG feel free to join us. 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons is the most popular and accessible version of the game ever. My last group included my god children and some of their friends. At the time, they were completely new to the game. I quickly learned that they were 1) some of my best players and 2) teen aged girls are uncommonly viscous gamers. Do not cross teen aged girls in D&D, they will literally collected your character's severed head.

Moving on....

We can talk you through making a character and how to use the rules. Roleplaying is a spectrum all the way from saying what your character is doing all the way to funny accents and acting it out. Most groups I've been in run that entire spectrum. There isn't a wrong answer. Also, don't be worried about being embarrassed. If you do decide to play, we are all in the same boat. I might have started gaming in the mid eighties but I am frequently too embarrassed to do the funny accents and act. So descriptions are perfectly fine in my book.

Finally, if we do not get enough TV people to form a complete party I do have access to my local gaming group. So even if we are under staffed here, I can add some of them. So we will definitely have a game. Part of gaming is just hanging out, so it is a great chance to get to know people. If we do have a mixed group, please be nice to my friends. I've been talking TV up for the last couple months and it would be nice to recruit at least a few of them.

Anyway, if you have questions please post them here to contact me directly and I would be happy to discuss them with you.

Oh, you can check out the Standard Reference Document or SRD at https://5thsrd.org/

We are also using material from the "Grim Hallow" campaign setting, but that is going to be pretty bespoke.

I'll update the campaign description when I get a chance to work that in.

If you have a class or race you would like to play that isn't in the SRD we can definitely talk about it. Some concepts may be outside the scope of the campaign but I will do my best to find a compromise if it is possible to do so.

So it looks like my dance card is full. If you are still interested in learning more about D&D my door is always open. Also, if any spots open up I will be sure to let people know.

So, I'm afraid I will not be running Curse of Strahd. There are several reasons for that, it is one long trigger waiting to happen and as a big sandbox it is really easy for characters to encounter things they should run away from and decide not to do so. As a rule most of the people I play with assume if they run into a monster that they can kill it. That is not often the case with Curse of Strahd. So I have decided to do Tomb of Annihilation instead. We have six players at the moment which is about as large as I want the regular group to be. If anyone is interested on stand by or possible NPC duty please let me know. All too often finding the time every week can be hard to do. So if we do need to expand the group a bit to insure we consistently have the right number of people playing, I will have a list of people to speak with ready to go.
