I know its possible to register a nick in chat but I don't know how to do it. And it seems someone else registered my chat nickname "Alora", how can I get this fixed? I don't have the password obviously so there isn't a way I can log in myself. Thanks!

If someone else registered it there is nothing you can do about it I'm afraid. You'll have to go to chat under a different name like Alora- Alora_ or AloraSionn. Unless of course you registered your nick and forgot all about it. Have you checked possibe emails from SorceryNet?
As for registering a nick it is /msg nickserv register yourpassword youremail.

Sorcery.net is used by a lot of people, not just us, and registrations are global across the network. So if someone else has registered Alora, well. :\ If they don't log in for a month, it'll purge and you can take it! :D

 That's awesome. I'm aware that other people could be named Alora as I myself got the name from babynames.com :cheeseeni: but I have never personally encountered the name before I found it to use for my character. :look: I'm not under the illusion that I own this name exclusively or anything :giggle

Sorcery.net is used by a lot of roleplayers etc and they tend to have fantasy-sounding kinda names so it's not thaaaat weird I'd say. :)

So....what you're saying is....sorcery.net is not just used by us?! :eek :rolleyes

Just kidding, I think I get that. I'm not very chat savvy so when I posted my question I didn't realize all of the nicknames across the board were shared. Now that ive been notified (multiple times) it makes more sense why the name Alora is taken. Thanks for answering my question everyone :)

I have registered AloraSionn now so all is well :)

Now you just have to remember to not do the whole identification thing in a public channel. I mean, I doubt any of our users would do anything funky but on other networks there has been rather entertaining... results. :look:

Huh? I've never done the "identification" thing. What is that?

When you have registered your nickname, to "identify" yourself you must enter the password like so: /nickserv id password. If you don't type it exactly like that and hit enter then your password winds up showing in chat.

I've done this a few times. forget the / or accidentally have a space in front of it and you have to change your password because you just gave it to everyone there. :desk

I get around the problem by having it stored in the program I use that automatically connects me to chat. If I change my nickname for any reason and then change back, I do have to enter the password, though.

Basically when you register a nickname it's like registering on forums and you have to "login" each time with your password to verify you're the real person using the nickname you registered with. :)

Yeah. I've done it. Best bet is to just download an irc client that will auto log you in. I'm so glad I registered my nick so many moons ago - I get pestered by people asking how committed I am to that name. Like there could actually be another Alyria besides me :rolleyes
