I didn't notice anything like that, honestly. The only difference I can think of along those lines is that the characters are more familiar now; they've had time to grow and so on. Their motivations are clearer, too, with factors like the Hunt and certain unwanted abilities shaping many thoughts...

I'm currently reading the second one, and I should have it finished soon enough. ^^
