Well technically in RJ's typically subtle way he did write himself into the story in a small cameo as a Library ter'angreal storing thousands of thousands of books. Something I always thought appropriate.

Yes most authors take aspects of their personalities and use them as basis for characters, and yes even events from their lives as inspiration too, that is to be expected.
