What is the significance of the 27 blocks in the circle, and the spacing of the 10 green bits, and the way the circle is rotated slightly off-centre? Would I be correct in assuming that the green blocks are supposed to represent the white marble from which a lot of the city is built?

Yep, same here! I'd love to see a breakdown/explanation of all of the elements in the new logo. It seems like there are some cool things going on with the colours, textures and overall design, so I'd really like to be able to understand them!
