Yep! They're our national icon. A small critically endangered flightless bird that survives on scavenging the forest floor. Good choice New Zealand. :P I guess after Scotland chose the Unicorn as their national animal, it was hard to top that so we didn't really try. :P

Haha yeah, from those who still call the civil war "The war of northern aggression" :P This however was the origional name sake for both New Zealanders and the fruit.

Haha, Kiwi is a term for New Zealanders, sort of like Pommie for English, Aussie for Austrlaian or Yankie for Americans. ;)
