I know I'm going to try to make at least half of my meals, just to save a few bucks.

Also, as for food - Paleo is very big in the United States right now, and California is always on the forward end of food trends. We have a lot of members who eat paleo, non-gluten, no carb, no fat, low sodium, no iodine, no caffeine, kosher, vegetarian, vegan, no uncooked fruits/veggies diets.... (edited for clarity: not all the same people ). Lake Tahoe is a small city, but it is a city. And it is a big food destination. And there are grocery stores of both the generic and granola persuasion. I feel confident saying that people will be able to find what they need.
Also, an important part of figuring out where our group dinner will be held is their ability to accommodate a variety of special needs. But anywhere you go in this region, you're going to be able to find fresh food in abundance.
Thanks Eleyan Sedai, but I would need something specifically AIP-compliant. Here in Brisbane we do have a few different Paleo restaurants but not even they are able to cater to AIP (not even a single meal for me), so it's not something I'm willing to leave to chance - I need to know before I make any sort of plans that there are going to be places where I can eat (and enough of them scattered around the place that I won't be confined to one area for the whole trip and miss out on any sightseeing or group activities or whatever). I know it's probably difficult to give any definites before the actual venue is decided upon, but I'd appreciate it being taken into consideration.
No colder than it was in Colorado. :P.
Yes ....... and you notice I wasn't there either. :P
Umless under duress ...... I don't do snow.
That's interesting, because it was developed and researched mainly in the USA, and I'm told that USA is more accepting of it than most countries (though it's not hard to be more accepting than zero). It's considerably more restrictive than Paleo, in the same way that Paleo is more restrictive than Gluten-Free.
I have contacted the Paleo restaurants in and around Brisbane and found that none of them can offer an AIP-compliant dish (which would be lovely just for the chance to have a night off from cooking for myself, let alone being able to enjoy lunch with colleagues or a night out with friends). It's difficult because the restrictions go right down to the level of what kind of spices and oils are used, so if a restaurant isn't already using a safe oil it can be very difficult for them to switch oils (and clean out any associated equipment) just for one dish. And the consequences of getting it wrong are only sometimes immediately apparent, but are potentially disastrous (to the point of hospitalisation etc.).
So stay indoors?
So much for socializing then . :P
What?! Indoors, when there might be snow?! D: D: D:I suspect most folks are going to be also staying indoors if it's cold. I'm not going to have winter gear with us so you can socialise with us.
