This is my second avatar. My first one was a woman silhouetted against a sunset. Faceless. Not me. I needed a face. I wanted an image I didn't have to ask permission to use and I wanted something to reflect something about me. After much searching, I found this image. She's a painting called "Jewish Woman From Tangiers" by Charles Landelle. Her hair is very similar to mine (those who have met me can attest) and I think some of her facial features are, too. I liked that this was a painting of a Jewish woman and reflected her as she was. Hubby cropped her a little bit and fixed a little bit (she looks a little cold in the original painting. Link: https://www.art.com/products/p41823...es-landelle-oil-on-canvas-french-painting.htm ) and there we are. This is me.

I quite honestly don't remember. :look I am sure I was browsing DA, and found the artist, and it called to me. :cheese

(Though it seems I never did ask permission way back when, so I did this time around.)

I always loved her art on DA and wanted to use her work as an Avatar too, but i think at the time when theft of her work was rather high, i was too afraid to ask because of her general 'no' policy. I'm certainly glad that you got it!

My avatar is basically my Xbox avatar aside from a different shirt and extensive Photoshop work throughout a relatively short time here. I consider myself a gamer even if I can only sneak in time to play when my kiddos aren’t home :shifty

As much as I love everyone’s fantasy or classically themed avvies, I chose to stick with something current to reflect TV.net’s presence in the modern world, not necessarily to the fantasy world in the books. I tried to work in some subtle weaves in the background, though.

My first avatar was this one:

I picked it, because I like Egypt and also that woman kind-of looks like me. I still like it a lot and I don't remember exactly why I felt the need to change it when I did ... I guess I was in some kind of identiy crisis.

    Now, I'm using this picture:

    [IMG][/spoilter]

Which I also like, because of the lantern and the slightly dark touch.

I love reading these stories :joy

Mine was drawn by my sister. ^^ I had the blue dress because she drew it when I was a citizen. I guess I should probably change it to white, just haven't gotten around to it.

This was my first ever avatar, when my name was Aleure Tokani back in like 2002. I picked it from one of those ancient fantasy avatar sites we used to link to on the first homepage. I mostly picked it because 1) short red hair and 2) she had a sword and looked like she was up to no good (I mean she is stealing jewels).

Later on I changed to this avatar when I came back to the site under the name Elia.

That avatar crop really doesn't do justice to the lovely piece by Kinuko Y. Craft that is used as a book cover for "Song for the Basilisk" by Patricia A. McKillip.

But when I found out the artist really doesn't like her art used in such ways, I went searching for a public domain image that had a similar look/feel to it. I came up with "Vanity" by Frank Cadogan Cowper.

I was searching DeviantArt for "red-head women". I picked out about 5 pictures and messaged the artists. My avatar is from the only one that responded and said I could use it. I'm super glad she did, I love it.

Between when I was a part of the site before and now I've had 3 avatars. I picked the first one since it was one of the offered ones and I liked it. When i rejoined i realized my first one was super emo, so looked for an avabale one from the Met. Had that for a bit and the felt it was too dark and was searching tumblr and saw this as a part of a meme. I love memes and enjoyed how light and uplifting it is also I asked to switch.

And now I've got this one.

It just kinda "feels" like me. Even my roommate way back when I picked it was like "yeah, that's really you!"

    My original was awful.

I switched to this lady about 10 years ago and she's been me since. I dunno, I'm pretty pale and until very recently have always had dark hair. I mostly just wear black. She looks like she's over your garbage which is also very me.

I've had this avatar forever. I like that she looks fierce. And in the original she is an archer (it's slightly NSFW, so I won't post it), and because of my love of archery and Birgitte, and the fact that I wanted to be Gaidin (even though I couldn't at the time, yay integration!), I picked it. Have had it ever since, though I did get Anujun to add the purple streak in for my Company.

My original avatar was used because out of all the batches of free avatars available in 2008 when I joined, it was the least revealing and most like my body type. However, over time I decided I didn't care for her Maiden vibe, and when I changed ajahs I decided to look for something more in line with how my personality had changed in 10 years from college student to 30-something business owner. This painting is from the 1800s, so it's in the public domain, and is from a French painter. The piece is called French Peasant Girl. I like it because it suits my personality much better, looks very much like me now, and she's dressed in much the same way as the Old Order Amish I have for neighbors (the difference is that they are not allowed to wear sontags/bosom buddies, and do always wear prayer caps).
