I would love to be Aes Sedai, though being male might put me out of the running :P unless I went back to the AOL!
I whole heartly agree with you, and try do the same myself and for my kids. For instance, to me it is very important to to protect the ones that cannot protect themselves (children, animals, nature, etc.). I do understand you point of view and do understand the (polished) ideology of being a warder, protector etc but the reality of being a warder is very different. I don't disaprove bonding itself, for instance bonding between female -> male channelers are equal and has advantages, likewise female -> female bonding. But bonding male -> female channelers seems to be the same as regular bonding which I do not approve.
We may life our lives honourable if we choose to do so (and we should!). After you become a warder, you may not choose anymore. A warder has to protect his AS, even if she turns to black. They are compelled and forced to do things with or without their approval. AS don't ask. It requires trust to give yourself and soul to another completely. "Here, take my free will and you use it wisely". Aes Sedai are people as well, with in good and bad. People change, they are selfish, they are petty, you never know. Besides, I suspect not many Aes Sedai even tells the guys about compelling they do or other ill-effects before bonding. It's the fine print guys never read until its too late.
I'm just re-reading wot and according to Moiraine's POV her's & Lan partnership is very very rare in the books. Moiraine (hardly never) compels Lan, but it is very common thing to do. Green's behaviour toward their warders is sickening me. I agree Aiel way of polygamy, because it happens in common understanding. Everyone has to agree. But Greens just take as many warders as they feel. Never ask if existing warder(s) agrees or not. How would you feel if your wife one day takes a guy to your home to and just says: "get along, dudes". This has nothing to do with duty & honor.
I hope I managed to explain more deeply what I mean, but it's difficult to do so with my limited ability to write english. It was rather difficult to find right words and phrases
