Been having a look at the e-book covers. I have thoughts. :look:

I like the one for New Spring. It's pretty much spot on for the (arguably) most significant moment of the novel.
EotW is a little bit odd in terms of context, but it's a nice piece of work.
TGH - WTF would Rand be doing holding up the Horn of Valere while surrounded by trollocs? :facepalm
TDR - A random moment from a virtual non-scene. Nothing relevant to the ultimate story(stories) of the book
TSR - Great pic. The ravens don't belong in the air at all, but at least it's a significant moment. Although, did Mat have his hat by that point? I can't recall...
TFoH - Beautiful piece of artwork, I think. A significant moment, though I think a broader scene would have been nice.
LoC - Fantastic! A broad enough scene for context, and an extremely significant point in the story.
ACoS - WTF? I realize it's a significant moment when Lan saves Nynaeve (kind of), but it doesn't even remotely connect to the title. If you read a basic synopsis, the cover would have you going "huh?".
TPoD - Lovely pic, except when did Elayne become a redhead and Aviendha a blonde? Or if Avi is the redhead, how the heck did her hair get so long so quickly? Plus... uh... Windfinders anyone? Okay, that's just nitpicking. :p Those aside, I really like this piece.
WH - Perfect! Good depiction. Extremely significant moment. But not spoilery.
CoT - *shrug* I'm lukewarm on this one.
KoD - OMG! THIS is why I have come to hate Min. She just HAD to go everywhere with Rand. She was a liability and cost him his hand. :mad I absolutely hate her now. I don't care how useful she is in other ways. *breathe* Significant moment, good overall scene, not too spoilery, so this is a good one.
TGS - technically a spoiler, but mainly it looks like someone trying not to get attacked by a dragon. You can barely see the little Seanchan guy up there, so it kind of takes away the context.
ToM - Well, the title didn't have anything to do with the book, so the cover art could be pretty much whatever. Might as well be Perrin and his cool new toy.

I like all the artwork. (Of course I would take almost anyone's artwork over Darrell K. Sweet, whose work I hated long before the Wheel of Time came along.) These artists have done nice jobs interpreting visions from the books for the most part. And the composition and color are quite lovely.

Anyway, what I really want to know is why none of my ebooks have these covers in them? :cry

The cover art for Crossroads of Twilight is the one I like best. I'm not a fan of cover art that attempts to portray a significant scene. The cover for CoT is recognizable if you've read the book but it is done in a way that you really can't draw anything significant from it.

Well, it's a long-running thing that Perrin would have to choose between hammer and axe. I never quite understood that, because he is killing, regardless, and it's pretty clear he's not going to be making pots and pans with his hammer any time soon. :look: But in looking at the covers again, I like it more this time. :scratch

Granted but this cover is SO much better than Sweet's one. At least they look more like Trollocs!

I'm really torn on just one favourite, some of these are just so beautiful. I think TSR and FoH are my current faves, though tied. The Lan/Nynaeve is another I really like and the LoC one grows on me all the time...

Just one favourite you say... :look:

Almost anything would be better than Sweet's covers. I can't begin to talk about it without going into a huge rant on how awful is work is that goes back about 25 years. :mad

I'm gonna say ToM is my favorite. The feel of that cover, the color scheme, the symbolism ... so great!

LoC, KoD, and NS are probably tied for second place. LoC depicts one of the most epic scenes in the entire series, is really well done artistically, and also has a lot of symbolism behind it. KoD is one very story-changing moment, has more detail than any other e-book cover, and is beautifully artistically done. NS is such a defining moment for the entire series, as without that team nothing would be as it is ... there is such emotion in that moment portrayed on the cover that it definitely fights for first along with the other two.

Next are TSR, FoH, and PoD. All three artistically well done, but without that little extra that the other three have. That, and TSR is totally more about Perrin than Mat ... it's his defining epic moment before he starts to fall into the PLoD ... plus Sam really shouldn't have used his own face :P .

Then comes aCoS. I like that moment, although I don't think it's the defining moment in the story by any means. Also, the actual artwork itself feels too soft, especially for Lan's features, and it doesn't really feel like a fantasy cover as much as it does fan art.

Next are WH and TGS. TGS is just too floaty for me. There's no ground, no solidness to anything in the image; the composition isn't very strong; Egwene's Accepted dress is way too fancy; the description of raken doesn't quite fit; and it is too spoiler-y. WH is the same way ... too floaty, too symbolic, not a great composition, and too spoiler-y.

Finally, the bottom of the bunch: EotW, TGH, TDR, and CoT. CoT is way too much like a comicbook. EotW and TDR are just too soft ... it's like whoever was creating them forgot to put in details ... not to mention how boring they look, or how they really don't fit into the story. I mean yeah, Rand was on the mast of Bayle Domon's ship for all of a few seconds, but that was a side effect of something pretty minor in the overall story. Him sitting with the Dragon Banner was all of one scene as well ... one of the maybe five short scenes with Rand in the entire story. TGH I feel sorry for Kekai. Clearly he was told to just recreate the original Sweet cover, but with his style, and make the characters look more like they should in the story. Kekai is an absolutely amazing concept artist, and I feel if he read the story and was given free reign on what to draw it would've been a hundred times better.

See, I don't think an artist should put pencil to paper without reading the book they're drawing for.

The Dragon Reborn is such a powerful title, and the image is just far too weak to go along with it.

The more I look, the less I like the cover of A Crown of Swords. We may understand what the image is portraying (although I had to read the description), but it's just... It's pretty but nearly meaningless. It's floaty and disconnected somehow.

This is interesting, all of your comments have me going back over the pictures, and I find myself revising certain opinions.

It might be spoiler-y, but I really like the one for WH, even if I found it confusing at first. I sort of wish it had been an image of Rand and Nynaeve across from each other with their ter'angreal, though. Maybe the fighting in the background. Not sure. But I still like the image.

I still can't look at the KoD cover without wanting to kill Min, though. :look:

I think Lord of Chaos may be my current favorite for imagery to go with the title.

For sheer prettiness (if not accuracy), I might choose tPoD.

FoH - I've decided that it looks too much like they found a model and actually tried to dress her up like Moiraine (whose outfit seems a bit odd to me) and digitally painted it. There's nothing wrong with doing that, but for some reason, I don't like it. :cheeseeni:

I like the one for the Path of Daggers because I think it's cool how it shows saidar and saidin as well as a crucial moment to the series.

My favourite e-book covers are from TGS and TOM. They are more action shots than most cover (apart from LoC) whch makes them cooler in my opinion :D

I like the one with Perrin walking away from his axe in the tree. Was that CoT? Also EotW's is so hopeful and optimistic and...well, it captures the idea of a beginning very, very well.

I like them all, though. And the new cover for aMoL looks good, too. I'm curious to see the eBook cover, though

Me, either. Tor apparently was doing a give-away a while back of prints of the ebook covers. I entered into the drawing, but didn't win. :( I even emailed Dan Dos Santos (the artist) a while back, lol, and he said he had to get permission from Tor to sell prints. Sigh!
