I doubt that it would be possible to bring Mesaana back to her mind (I doubt that Aes Sedai would want to anyway) and keep her shielded, but I think that it could be worth a try to try and gain knowledge.

Mesaana's mind broke, Its like someone who was in a really bad car accident and had severe brain damage. She can't think or remember in a cohesive way. She can't even go Potty like a big girl by herself anymore, and I highly doubt any level of therapy they could give her, given their level of knowledge of mental issues and technology, would do much if any good. While they may know a great deal about the one power, their still living a re-industrial society. Mental Illness isn't something that has been studied by many and I more than likely think that Freud would look at their combined knowledge on the subject and bust out pointing and laughing saying "HA NOOB!"

I don't think there's much "mind" left to trap. She's less than worthless to the Dark now, so I don't see any rescue of her coming into play.

I agree with what you say, if it were an isolated event. Just one person killed by Balefire is no big deal. It won't unravel the Pattern. Every single place where it's been used can be rationalised. Kill a few Forsaken. Kill Darkhounds to save people from dying. Undo deaths caused by people. And so forth. The more Balefire that is used, the greater the risk to the pattern. That's why it's not acceptable to Balefire Mesaana. Where do you stop? Where do you draw the line? If you don't, at some point, it'll ruin wreck the Pattern beyond repair. That's why Aes Sedai have outlawed it.

The bigger the stream the further back in the pattern it erases. If you wait 2 days with her broken in her room doing no harm and use the weakest stream possible to "destroy" her then no harm will truly be done to the pattern other than the Dark One not being able to bring her back to life. Because at the end of the day, if they want to get rid of her, thats the best way to do it.
Unless of course her mind and her soul are both broken... which is an interesting thought.

I think we should consider her as we would one touched by Machin Shin. She is for all intents and purposes gone, her body but a shell. Euthanise her and be done with it.

Being perhaps days away from the last battle, it's unlikely the Great Lord has the time to bring her back (recall that there were significant gaps for Ishy, the 'Gars and Lanfear). The GLOTD also has shown he is not inclined to revive those who displease him, and Messana hasn't done much to earn her keep in this age.

On th contrary, she has been dictating the Black Ajah in the Tower and in the Rebel camp when it existed. That is no small feat. Of course, the DO won't be to happy to know that the biggest part of the BA is dead, but she did play a big role in the Schism.

I don't think she will be left dead by the DO. With the Last Battle approaching, I imagine the DO will want all the soldiers he can get his hands on. There is a strength in numbers, especially if you're a number that is really powerful in the OP.
I say: Keep her alive, at least until after the Last Battle. That way she will be of no use to he side of the Dark. Ither option isbalefire, but as mentioned above, not too much of it please...

2 lashes a day? That's foreplay. 20 maybe.
I'm pretty sure it isn't madness that has Mesaana dirtying herself, it's more like turning someone into a vegetable, as someone's mentioned previously, or being reverted to the mental capacty of a newborn. Nyneave healing madness gave me a visual image of black hooks being pried loose from the mind, and I believe the guy she healed was fairly new and didn't have too many hooks stuck in it. That madness is a thing of the DO anyway, not something Egwene would be throwing at anyone. It'd be interesting to see what Nyneave makes of Mesaana's problem, whatever it is.

Would balefiring Mesaana remove an ounce of confidence in Egwene she got out of defeating the woman in the dreamworld? Assuming she got any. She may not have, cursed woman. I have much sympathy for Gawyn.

Assuming she can't be healed, I don't think there's any point in public humiliation, I don't think she has the mental capacity to understand what'd be happening to her. Even imprisoning her or stilling her won't have any affect if she doesn't know what's going on. Stilling her might keep anyone around her safe, at least.

The kindest thing to do would be to put her down. No point wasting perfectly good food rations on her.

If she *can* be healed then being kept something like how Egwene was kept while she was Elaida's prisoner would be fun to watch at the very least. Maybe with an a'dam. Yeah, that's the ticket!

Strength in numbers - force-conversion of a good portion of the black tower's numbers. No rescued Chosen required. (Your mileage may vary.)

I dont see this "mind breaking" as ever being healed. I see her as a body, with her brain only doing what it does automatically without thought. She is a shell, that breathes and functions, but has no consciousness. Parading her around will not affect her, no. But it could show other DF's that this is what can happen to a Chosen, then it would get them thinking about what could happen to little ole them.

As to what to do with her if they decide to let her live....I say keep her in the tower and assign novices to keep her fed and clean until her body stops functioning and dies on its own. Yes, she was evil and should die, but I feel as she is now is more of a punishment than death could ever be.
