What kind of Amyrlin do you think she was?

Just the title. I have a personal headcanon that she was extremely spiteful, but in a way that the Tower needed severely. Her lack of regard for other Aes Sedai, and her outright animosity at being raised Amyrlin would be an excellent opportunity for her to force some much needed changes.

For one, I think she would squash any and all opposition to the rise of the Black Tower. A meeting with the Hall of the Tower where she forbids (forbids!) any Aes Sedai from hunting the Asha'man, and when met with opposition, I can literally hear her saying "Phaw!" and explaining in a very patronizing manner that the Black Tower are currently reveled by witnesses at Merrilor that the Asha'man acted as heroes, and any opposition to them would very severely hurt their standing with the public.

Thoughts from others?

Mod note: We changed the title because it was showing up in the sidebar, which would potentially spoil events for other readers. The original title was, "What kind of Amyrlin do you think Caduane was?"

Such an interesting topic!

I haven't thought too much about it beyond the fact that I think she'd be good for the Tower. But she has so much less compassion or will to understand others than Egwene :cry

Still, I feel she would be a strong person who can unite the Tower after so many Aes Sedai have been killed, or had their Warders killed.

I think she was a good choice, but I worry how she will think of the deal between the Wise Ones, Sea Folk and the Tower. Was any other Aes Sedai part of that meeting? If not, I suspect it will avail to nothing :(

In my head, either Cadsuane is positive to the Black Tower, and does what you suggest, or she is very negative and tries to quash it. I hope for the first, especially since the Black Tower is too big to stop now :cheeseeni:

If the cycle is to repeat itself at some point the Aes Sedai has to become united again. It seems that union lasts for a long time as well. I doubt the two Towers unite in Cadsuane's time, but they probably don't start a war either.

As for how Cadsuane is as an Amyrlin I have to get further in my re-read to make an educated guess

Ah, it's been a minute since I finished AMoL, the dynamic between channelers of other people centralizing around the Tower with Egwene's precedent completely slipped my mind while writing this. Honestly, I don't think even Cadsuane would have the ability to stop that momentum to coalesce, and hopefully she would realize that and carry on the policy that Egwene started. Agreed, though, this is such an interesting topic.

It is also quite possible that Egwene becomes such a legend that reversing her policies is simply not possible :look:

Exactly! I would expect that rumors would spread of the Tower's new policies (novice age-restrictions lifted, mostly, but also the implementation of the Kin and the inclusion of other channelers), and there would be such an influx of people to Tar Valon that turning them all away would potentially become a conflict of interest to their public image, which the Aes Sedai seem acutely aware of, especially towards the end of the series. Combining that with the reputation of Egwene Al'Vere herself, the peasant girl who practically became a goddess of salvation, tying the threads of the Pattern back together and decimating the forces of one of the Forsaken? I don't think the whole Tower combined would be able to quell the new reputation that Egwene set in motion.

Egwene's ending is so epic. Just reading what you guys are writing here is moving me  When she became the Flame of Tar Valon, something no one knew the origin of, I just screamed.

There is a lot to tie together and the Aes Sedai would have to use diplomacy instead of force, I agree on that. Cadsuane would probably be great at keeping the negotiations from stalling, I think. She uses her force to make people agree on things, be strong and behave

Speaking of the Flame, do you think the weave would come into knowledge of others? My hope is yes, because I'm sure the effects of balefire would have to be combated later. I think the best hope for this would be any channelers that were close enough to see Egwene or feel the residues of her weaving the Flame (though admittedly, it would likely be difficult if not impossible to ascertain from only those facts alone).

Oh, and I just remembered that Cadsuane has many positive experiences with the Wise Ones. :pleased-1: So I am more optimistic about the future of channelers now :)

I do worry about the Seanchan though... But hopefully Mat and Min will be able to change the Damane policy...

That's true! She and Sorilea had that truce of sorts. I remember when Aviendha took her second journey through the columns and saw the future of the Aiel, they said Fortuona had been honorable, but her successor was very much not so. I wonder if they were able to avert that future since Aviendha gave the Aiel a purpose with policing the nations to hold to the Dragon's Peace, or if Fortuona was still destined to be assassinated or usurped.

And to add to things, now that Shaara is more or less in shambles, what's going to happen to their channelers?

Shara can go off themselves :tug :P

Honestly though, their leaders S'botan/botay are dead, either by Graendal or Demandred, and most if not all their channelers are gone. They were the true rulers in that land... But we know too little about them to really speculate much on that :(
