I hope it's the proper stuff straight from Greek philosophers and not the modern stuff co-opted by the manosphere. Recently found out that actual Stoic philosophy practices were a key component in the conception of modern CBT, which surprised me as the only exposure I'd had was "macho" dweebs suppressing their feelings and not showing emotion or distress and labelling that Stoic

Modern term of Stoic has nothing to do with Stoicism of the past. Yes, you are referring to Epictetus, whom the CBT researchers in the mid 1900's cited in their own research.

Also found out Socratic questioning is also a core tool in CBT. Once I'm through critical theory and post-structuralism I guess I'll have to go back to the roots of philosophy and explore the Ancient Greek schools of thought too.

I do believe Hippocrates was on to something when he said all disease begins in the gut. Modern medicine is now embracing this idea through functional medicine, for example, thyroid issues being related to potassium bromate in foods, and a high inflammation based diet. It's fascinating how much the ancients knew, even if they didn't know all the technical little details.

I’m reading this one too! So good! Have you watched the show? What do you think of the difference?

I watched the show first, and then picked up the series. I usually think of the show as one of the
alternative timelines the characters go through
. Tbh, I like the show more. I think the characters are more diverse, the magic is better realized, and I like having more content with the TV shows.

I kind of agree. The only thing from the books I prefer is the name Janet. I have the hardest time thinking of her as Margo for some reason. I especially like Penny’s storyline in the show better.

I feel like a lot of that stuff also intersects with modern industrial food manufacturing processes, dietary patterns and, not to be that annoying godless commie but, the modern mode of productions prioritising of accumulation of capital over consumers overall health. Although healthy guts are important, I remember briefly reading something about a "second brain" of sorts in relation to the digestive systems biosphere.

Now adding Francis Bacons Essays: Civil and Moral to my currently reading list as well as Guy Debords Society of the Spectacle. I think it's safe to say philosophy and the human sciences have become my latest interest

You might enjoy this as well: The Essence of Progress and Poverty by Henry George (only 60 pages long)

Oh, A book on Georgism! I've heard good things about it so I'll definitely add it to my booktopia lists if they stock it, thank you.

Still working my way through the Malazan books. Finished Deadhouse Gates...which was just a heavy and brutal book. Starting Memories of Ice now. Also reading Fake Accounts for something a little lighter, and shorter.

I just read the entire Giver quartet in two days. I had of course, read the Giver in school. A bunch of times. But I'd never read the follow up novels. It was worth it.

I just finished reading Camp Damascus by Chuck Tingle. Not entirely sure how I feel about it (I'm also not a horror person in general, which doesn't help)

I had the thought to do this last year and never got around to it! Dangit now my itch is back, I am going to write this down as my next little adventure.
