The Executive Team met on May 4th to discuss the results of the bonding survey and discuss options for updating the Bond. There were a variety of opinions submitted via the survey, and the overwhelming majority were in favor of implementing same-path bonding. We had a total of 141 responses to the survey. All of the comments were read, considered, and discussed. After a lengthy discussion, we agreed same-path bonding should move forward. We have communicated this plan to the Board of Directors and confirmed their alignment. This change will allow two Aes Sedai and Gaidin to bond each other regardless of their membership organizations. The number of available bonds will not change - Each Red Aes Sedai starts with 0 bonds available, Each Green Aes Sedai and each Gaidin start with 2 bonds available, and each Aes Sedai of all other Ajahs start with 1 available bond. An additional bond will continue to be made available to Aes Sedai or Gaidin who achieve both the Gold Senior Membership Merit and four additional Gold Merits. The Bond will continue to grant Sitting Room/Great Room forum access to each bond pair for their bondmate’s membership organization. [This paragraph contains spoilers regarding the Warder bond in the books] Spoiler As our community is based on the structure of The White Tower and the city of Tar Valon, it is helpful to show the canon set forth in The Wheel of Time. Whereas the bond relationship was exclusive to an Aes Sedai bonding a Warder directly at the beginning, this developed over time to enable an Aes Sedai to bond two people together - such as Min’s bond with Rand. So too has our community developed over time, and this change reflects that development. We will work to update our documentation over the next few weeks and begin processing requests for same-path bonds on June 1st. Requests for demotions and bond dissolutions may be submitted until May 31st for those who wish to dissolve a current bond or demote. We look forward to better recognizing the powerful relationships that already exist between members across our community. Please reply with any questions you have.
