Here's another cosmology question:

How many deities are there, and how many Powers are there?

My theory, which can only be confirmed or denied by Team Jordan in or after the Encyclopedia, is that there are in fact 3 deities and three powers. I thought this prior to ToM and I think it even moreso now.

The three deities, and their corresponding Powers, are:

1) The Dark One, who uses the True Power
2) The Wheel, which uses the One Power
3) The Creator, which uses Pipe Power (as in, Rand uses it to light the Impossible Pipe).

I'll post in more detail when time permits. Thoughts are invited.

Just because a scale balances things doesn't make it an animate object.

All throughout the book the Aiel have been talking about "waking up from the dream." I think it's more likely that Rand is capable of treating the real world much like Perrin treats Tel'arhakl;jafoiajrhiod or whatever. Sort of like Inception but not really because Rand isn't portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio.

I think that Rand is capable of bending the Pattern itself on a whole different scale than Channelers are able to. With the One Power, they can bend the Pattern a tiny, tiny bit, to create something out of nothing using the five powers. When Rand was in The Void (that's what I'm calling it!), he used thousands of powers that the Pattern provided him. I think that now that he's no longer in the void, he still retains some of that power, just because he simply knows how it works.

This is the start of a new Age, which could bring along new types of magic. It could be that Rand is just the first the use a new form of magic, and that more people will pop up who can do the same thing.

Interesting, but I doubt Rand's new ability is enough to show there's a new power...
What in ToM made you think there was another power out there?

Perhaps this new power of Rand's is a combination of Saidar, Saiden, & the True Power and will be the norm for the next age.

The True Power is no longer accessible, now that The Dark One is sealed away.

I believe since Rand was outside the Pattern and was able to manipulate it, he retained that power. Since he was the Creator's champion perhaps the Creator endowed Rand with some of his/her power for a job well done.

What a cool thought. I love reading these posts with all the different ideas and theories. It really makes me look at the whole series in an entirely different way. Thanks Matrim!

The True Power is no longer accessible, now that The Dark One is sealed away.

Rand also burnt himself out and can't access the one power any more - my understanding was he near on drained Mori and Nyn as while he was at it as they all almost fell straight out of the cave, he used a hell of a lot of power - Moridin would have been burned out if the process hadn't killed him anyway - his link with the DO was too strong and with that much TP in him (he was trying to obliterate himself after all), if Rand hadn't had 2 women, he'd have burned the one he had out, as it was, he near crippled them anyway .... add to that that Rand tested both the powers he could access and was unable to reach either one ... so he's using something ... but if there is a 'creator' power, then that upsets the balance of the wheel, so I don't have an answer to this, the creator has never given power to anyone before, why Rand, why now, why not give his 'champion' something to take to battle to counter the TP ... or is this the balance, now that the TP is out, a second can come in? But it still makes no sense ...

Although I'm inclined to agree with Jeffan Gaidin, that Rand was given access to the pattern to weave "alternate" worlds, that may have lasted after returning to Randland, and if you can directly alter the entire pattern and re-weave it, creating a tiny flame for a pipe would be pretty easy :/ strange ability to give someone though don't you think?
