All the Notes Templates are in the "Notes Templates" Category
https://library.tarvalon.net/index.php?title=Category:Notes_Templates, and if you go to the page of any of them, and choose "what links here" from the left hand menu, you can see each page that uses any particular template (you can also do this for a character)
Interestingly (well, to me, and I'd be at least 90% confident to Ilverin as well), there is a "special page", "most linked pages"
https://library.tarvalon.net/index.php?title=Special:MostLinkedPages
Rand is number one, 1379 pages on our Wiki link to the Rand page

I'm in Chapter 36, where Rand first meets Loial.:love Loial mentions: "Not many of us have gone out among men since the Shadow fell on the Ways. That's...oh, six generations, now. Right after the War of the Hundred Years, it was."

I had been under the impression until now that the issues with the Ways began as a result of tainted Saidin, back at the end of the AoL, but I guess it must have been Ishamael's influence during the war?

....got to Chapter 39- Got to meet Tallanvor :D - so many characters I just glossed over during previous reads....

I think what he's saying with the Ways is that the Shadow fell on the Ways because of the taint. They weren't as bad until the taint set in.

With my own foreknowledge of the books, and how Elaida tries to manipulate Rand, and that she started off knowing how much happens around him, it just puts into perspective how selfish and power-hungry she truly is.
I have been thinking about this. I think this is RJ's theme of irony coming into play. This Aes Sedai could have been truly OP and a great benefit to the Light- powerful in the one power, advisor to a powerful leader, foretelling. Instead, she is super selfish and power hungry. And ends up actually getting in her own way later on.
I think what he's saying with the Ways is that the Shadow fell on the Ways because of the taint. They weren't as bad until the taint set in.
Huh - I thought they were tainted right after the AoL, not after Artur Hawkwing's reign... maybe it just took that long for saidin to affect it?

Edit - so they were created during the later part of the breaking by male Aes Sedai hiding out in the stedding. Theoretically it could have taken awhile after that for them to be tainted.

A little more of them being separated, and then they are back together. We again meet several characters who will become major ones later, and Loial, who becomes a major one pretty much straight away. We also are pretty much hit over the head with Nyneave and Lan having feelings for each other, though no indication either of them has admitted it, let alone discussed it.

Chapter 35

Pale grey stone, streaked with silver and white- Marble? Granite? Is this a description of a real type of rock?
“A thousand storied had painted cities in his mind” – I guess RJ didn’t have aphantasia, which might be why he describes things so much (though at least he doesn’t quite go to Tolkien like lengths for describing trees and mountains
Mat still wants to go home. Eventually, he would have no interest in this
One of the descriptions of people is “Skins too dark or too pale”. We don’t really get many direct descriptions of skin tone for Two Rivers folk, except in how they react to other people – noting when someone would fit right into the Two Rivers, or when someone was obviously not born there
Gill think Rand and Mat are about the age where men get into trouble with Aes Sedai – They are probably actually a little young for when men typically start channeling
We learn Thom was actually a famed Court bard
Chapter 36
Gill believes there wouldn’t be any Darkfriends in Caemlyn
Mat continues to be suspicious
Rand meets an Ogier. Earlier in the book, he had thought “Next he might actually meet the Green Man, or an Ogier giant, or a wild, black-veiled Aielman”. One down, two to go
Loial shows no interest in cities, or working with stone – it seems Moiraine’s earlier claim that Manetheren was so beautiful that Ogier came to stare at it was not likely to be accurate
We learn of the longing, but not how it works
Loial thinks Rand is Aiel
Loial thinks Rand would know about Avendesora – is this just an assumption based on giving the sapling to Caiehien, or is there something else?
Again, we meet someone who has no idea where the Two Rivers is
What does he mean tha “he could almost feel the Pattern swirl”. Why does he think that Rand, and maybe all his friends are Ta’veren? Why not just one?
Chapter 37
When they head north off the road, Lan frequently looks back and encourages Nynaeve, but Moiraine focusses on the way ahead and ignores her
Nynaeve is totally confident Lan can free Perrin from a camp of 200 men. She tells herself it is just because he is a Warder. She is also annoyed that he leaves without him noticing.
Nynaeve has a premonition that if they don’t all get their own horse, some will die – this seems a development of her Talent of Listening to the Wind.
Chapter 38
Perrin has realized he will eventually confess to whatever the Questioners want to hear
He reasons out that Byar wants them to escape to give him an excuse to kill them
When Nynaeve doesn’t return, Lan instinctively sets off to find her, but Moiraine stops him, telling him to remember his oaths and some things are more important than others
Perrin’s bruises fade exceptionally quickly – Is this just a way in which this world is a little different from ours, or does she unwittingly Heal him – she certainly seems surprised and maybe frightened, suggesting she is considering this possibility. Would this then mean she can sense him, or is this ability only for major Healings?
Perrin’s eyes have turned yellow
Chapter 39
Mat has decided Loial is a Trolloc
Padan Fain has made his way to Caemlyn and is asking after the boys for some reason
Logain laughs as he enters the Palace grounds – this is because he sees the ta’veren glow around Rand
Chapter 40
Eugh. We meet Elayne
Gawyn at least knows where the Two Rivers is. Is this the first mention of Tabac from there?
Elayne thinks Galad is full of envy. Even this early, we get a good sense this isn’t true, and she is just being petty and immature
Tallanvor paraphases what Galad has said – distorting it past the point of dishonesty
Tallanvor is unhappy with Rand for not knowing what to do. I do not like Tallanvor
Elaida tells Elayne that within a month she will want to run away with the Travelling People. Clearly this is not actually true, so we see another example of just how Aes Sedai get around the oath to speak no word that is not true
Two Rivers folk are Dark of hair and eye. Rand’s natural skin tone is also paler than is typical for the Two Rivers
Gareth feels the sword belongs with Rand, although he is too young to have earned it – he probably isn’t really, he, Galad and Gawyn all seem good enough within a year
Elaida refers to Logain as “the Unbeliever”. An odd term
Elaida has a foretelling. Rand stands at the heart of the pain and division coming to the world, though only Rand hears that part
How did Morgase hear the Two Rivers accent? We might think it was Tam, but later I think we see this is not true. I believe we learn of another Two Rivers man who went out into the world
Elayne thinks Rand is handsome
Gawyn, despite being a little arrogant, is actually kind of decent. He also thinks Rand looks Aiel
Chapter 41
Loial thinks Rand falling into the the garden was ta’veren
The Whitecloaks are searching for Perrin – they have apparently got ahead of the others. This is not the first time news travelled faster than our heroes and won’t be the last
Mat somehow notices that Nynaeve has started to think of herself as a pretty woman – Is she dressing or moving differently, or is he picking this up some other way?
He also realizes she can channel
Moiraine tells them that Fades and dedicated Darkfriends can sense the dagger and track them

Logain laughs as he enters the Palace grounds – this is because he sees the ta’veren glow around Rand
So this is mentioned later on in the books, but not in this chapter. I was wondering why I kept missing this during rereads, but it isn't mentioned at all here:
"As the wagon rolled through the Palace gates, he turned to look back at the assembled masses. They howled at him, beyond words, a wave if sheer animal hate and fear, and Logain threw back his head and laughed as the Palace swallowed him."
I had always thought that Rand was too far away for Logain to notice him among the crowd. It threw me off later in the books where it is mentioned that Logain had seen Rand and his ta'veren glow and warned the Andoran court of someone worse than he. Are more details in a later book?

I can't remember the exact words, but it might be when Egwene releases him, he says something like "As I was been taken into the palace, I some someone in the distance and knew he would cause more trouble than I ever did". Logain can see Ta'veren, so its possible he also saw Rand's glow

Loial has the talent of feeling ta'veren, that is why he is sure Rand is ta'veren...

Looks actually says he doesn’t, through I really don’t know how he would know, unless ta’veren are a lot more common than we suspect.

I thought it was especially odd when he said all three of them were ta'veren, as it is supposed to be extremely rare.
Maybe this was one of the areas where RJ was initially influenced by an editor wanting to make it seem more like LOTR? I'm trying to look out for signs of that during this reread.

I think those have dropped off a little by now, though it’s worth seeing if we can see more
It was more the first few chapters, the village folk, mysterious wizard, dark shadowy figures on horseback watching them, meeting a mysterious warrior who was secretly a king

I think I've been reading too quickly? :rofl
But some interesting notes on Chapter 48:

Water serpent with tentacles and hands on the tentacles (?) mentioned in the lakes of Malkier. :look: This type of creature isn't mentioned anywhere else. I'm wondering how it got there - was it one of the creatures Aginor created?

Also - apparently this world has lions, as Lan compares Nynaeve to one. (Note- where are the lions?)
I also didn't remember just how quickly the Lan-Nynaeve relationship develops. Once again, I'm impressed by how RJ did 'relationships'.

I had thought that Lan was still training Rand to :sword more at this point, but maybe that is in the next book?
Side thought: can someone become a sword master in just 2 years (e.g. the time from book 1 to book 14)? o_O :tug

I reconcile this by thinking maybe he is somehow drawing on skills learnt in a previous life to speed him up.

He probably knew because he was reading books about it. He must have recognised patterns. For the things to have happened just the way they had, for an Aes Sedai to have been in the village when it was attacked. For them to have survived the attacks by darkfriends. I mean they are supposed to be ignorant children who never left their small village and never encountered darkfriends before. For them then to find darkfriends in almost every village they stop in, and manage to escape them at that. Loial must have read about other ta'veren and the experiences they had and probably recognised the pattern of events happening.
