Re-read is complete! Thanks to everyone who participated, it was fun reading along with you. There is a Stormlight Achive thread for any who want to post about the TWoK or the book series.

This thread is for those who want to join in on the re-read of the The Way of Kings, in anticipation of book 2 being released late 2013 or early 2014. There is a seperate thread for the Stormlight Archive.

Most that were participating in the re-read have finished, but if any still want to participate, and your a fast reader, please free to join in! If you are late in joining, I'm sure those who have finished the re-read would still like to take part in the discussion if there is anything regarding the book you'd like to post.

As we go along we can discuss what moves us, things we missed the first time, favorite quotes, speculation on the future, and of course who died that made Brandon Sanderson think of Asmodean. And I think it will help us to get to know each other a little better! I'm hoping we can stick pretty close together on this re-read, and anybody who wants to join in the fun please feel free to jump in anytime!

I'm keeping notes as I read. Just gonna transcribe them here to remind myself and/or help spark discussion.

    Notes

    Prologue - 15
    fully updated
Kalik, Jezrien... 10 total. Heralds. Oathpact?
What are dustbringers? relationship to desolations?
Thaidakar, Restares, Sadeas - people king suspected of wanting to kill him. Other brightlords?
Dark sphere that glows -- Gavilar said "they" can't get it. What is it? Who are "they?"
Unpredictable seasons that last 2-3 weeks each? Seasons must have a different cause than they do on earth.
"Were windspren attracted to gusts of wind, or were they the gusts?" muses Kaladin. Interesting question.
demands made of the Heralds on Proving Day -- apparently they were pretty heavy demands? What is Proving Day?
Smokestone (a gem on Jaznah's fabrial) is a "pure, glassy black" stone. Same thing as Gavilar's necklace?
Shallan's Memory and drawing talent - is there more to this? Something about capturing parts of their souls
    Elithanathile = He who transforms
Kaladin says the Shattered Plains aren't natural. So... what caused them?
Grump, Lump and Thinker looking for Hoid. Who are they?
"Three of sixteen ruled, but now the Broken One reigns." Ch. 11 death quote. as in 16 shards? Who is Broken One?
Story about the Nightwatcher and her black sphere that glows. Gavilar's sphere?
Dead chasmfiend spren -- what are they?

I'll start in during the weekend. Right now I'm almost finished with the 4th Malazan book, and won't start anything new (or "new") before finishing that one!

I'm glad I'm not the only one with a bunch of questions, mine after just the prologue!

I'm a fast reader though so I'm sure I'll catch up with you guys easily. ^^

    :D :hug back

The prologue and ch 1 had a lot of questions for me. Ch 2 and 3 (intros to Kaladin and Shallan) don't have a whole lot of questions that I don't remember the answers to. I'm trying hard to pace myself and not get ahead.

No sir, I do not. It helps that I ride the bus to/from work and can read during my lunch break (though lately I've been browsing tv.net instead). But I am an incredibly fast reader. Sometimes perhaps too fast. I worry that I miss things. This pacing thing is actually good for me.

I'm not going to start until I finish what I'm currently reading...
That being said, I'm not sure I'll be able to keep up with the crazy hours I work. But I'll have to see.

    What about the....
the man with a beard that speaks gibberish in the begining of the first chapter?? Szeth dismisses him as a drunkard which he probably was but I instantly thought maybe one of the heralds speaking forgotten language?? I could be over-reading (is that a word?!!) but these things are kind of typical to Brandon Sanderson.

:blink to get through your first read of AMoL? That's way, WAY more important! Definitely should take priority

Deiria, that's definitely interesting. I try not to over-read things, as you said, but you're right that Brandon does love throwing things like that in. It's possible
that he's Hoid, though I'm not sure why he'd be speaking gibberish (or another language).

    Updated my notes.
