FYI = But yeah (that'll make more sense if you get to the end) - this post does not come with a grumpy/snarky/bitchy/anything negative tone ... My post is tone neutral even if it doesn't seem that way, I really am simply too tired to have an emotion good or bad at the moment, so yeah, tone totally neutral! :) /FYI

While I personally I gave a little cheer of 'YAY' when Egwene died (I never liked her much, she was on my personal least favourite good guy list, her character development turned her from mildly likable into 'my god, tak about a 'high and mighty' complex, her development was just rotten in my opinion, different topic for a different day though) ... I am bummed that not more of the original characters joined her in death - Rhuac & Suan & Byrne & Gawyn (which once he died - Egwene death was inevitable) were the only others (can't remember if Galad died or not anymore, I think he lived minus an arm, but I can't remember and my book isn't with me, it's with the rest of the collection at my parents not here at uni -- Bella doesn't count, it's a horse, no one complained about the other horses that didn't make it or any of the Wolves who had far more personality than that pony did) ... Everyone else made it out, the 3 boys, Rand's Wives, Nyn, Lan, Mori, WO's, just about ALL the original 'Good Guys' made it in and out (without many scratches) ... For a book that was; war, war, war, a little banter, war, war, war, a little story, war, war, war, Demi, war, war, war, shit - story line, war, war, war etc (you get my point), and with all the hundreds of thousands of everyone dying - the originals (maybe major is a better word) did really well to live through all that (ok Avi ended up maimed, but she just needs Nyn to work a little harder and she'll be fine)... But seriously, percentage wise, for an END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT (win or lose) WAR - more of our 'know and love' or 'got to know and hate' characters should have bit the big one ... too many survived for my taste given the SCALE of the war, and the fact that even Whale Elayne didn't sit it out, there should have at least been a LOT more injuries (and bandages given all the exhausted Aes Sedai could not have been doing much healing really), it was basically too little death... But ON TOPIC

But I have to agree ... The 'cure' for Balefire I have to agree was not so much a surprise but more ODD ... Egwene turned into a god-damn CRYSTAL BAND-AID! That's just bizarre even by WoT standards where Odd goes with the territory (well it is an alternate world, our logic and most of our laws of physics don't work there and that's ok, that's why it's called fantasy - but this was still crazy shit) ... But the woman cures Balefire's damage by turning herself into a crystal band-aid over the balefire cracks and gets herself and two of the most powerful male and female artefacts stuck in there with her ... She was too prideful and selfish a character for it to be classified as something possible because of the 'goodness and pureness' of her character (as someone else suggested), and for all the weaves she discovered - why do people keep forgetting she and Nyn basically tortured most of those 'discoveries' out of Moggy and didn't actually 're-discover' much of what they were credited with? (add that as another character flaw to her list - not that she really could admit where they got them at the time, but still ... this has more to do with the 'goodness and pureness of character' comment kinda took me for a 6, it is Egwene were talking about and I have trouble reconciling that concept with her sometimes/frequently ambiguous moral character, ok she wasn't bad or evil, but she sure as hell wasn't a pure saint either *promise to stop ranting now*)

But I think it's simply an anomaly of the book ... if anything it was the flute (having a naming brain fart day, was it an angrel or a sa'angrel or the other one? Spelling went out the window as well) that she had that helped her more than anything else ... if she had any other 'power drawing' tool she couldn't have murdered herself and everyone near her with her Crystal-Band-Aid trick because she couldn't have drawn the power to do it ... even with the flute I'm surprised she could, I know it had no filter on it, but she was warn out, had barely bothered to stop and even shed a tear for her Warder/Husband, was still fighting, and doing mental gymnastics trying to work out how to fill in the holes when she went, ok now I'm going to make a monument of myself ... Even with the flute having no filter on it, the fact she could hold any power at all is kind of odd as well, but that she managed to fill herself up to bursting AND do something with it should NOT have been possible even in WoT world ...

As for the Jenn Aiel theory that popped up - I actually think that makes sense for their crystal ... Egwene had a flute 'power tool' that gave her the ability to neutralise Balefire on a field that had basically turned to desert ... Rhuidean is in a desert and the Tinkers (closest think to the Jenn) are searching for a SONG ... Flute, song .... there is a small link there ... But if the last Balefire Desert was covered in crystal, then is it maybe possible that the Jenn Song is what did that? (the Jenn would have had to have Channelers amongst them the last of the AoL Aes Sedai died there after all - maybe a link plus the song created that crystal?) .... Put that down to Crazy Theory # 183 (Well I haven't been short on coming up with Crazy Theories ever LOL - Yes my profile is a little broken right now, it'll be fixed soon) .... But if I remember right and Egwene's 'power tool' was actually a flute, then you can weakly link that to the Tinker song, which can be weakly linked to the Jenn which can in tern be weakly linked to the last desert full of Balefire cracks (assuming that desert did come with balefire cracks) ... and that's if you loosely translate the whole turning of the wheel of 'what goes around comes around then goes back around again', then 'balefire desert crystal-band-aid' was done with an instrument (being voice) and power, and the latest 'balefire desert crystal-band-aid' was done with an instrument (flute) and power ...

I don't claim that makes sense - nor do I claim it is even close to right - because well .... It's probably not, I haven't thought about it much, and it's almost 2am and because I'm back in the dorms at uni and it's O-Week (Drunk-week) I haven't slept for 2 days and there is a raging beer pong game going on beside me - all that adds up to mean that my brain wasn't working yesterday and it definitely stopped working a few hours ago so it's amazing I can make any kind of sentence at the moment let alone a coherent one, so if any single sentence made sense that's a bonus, if this whole thing made sense, it's a miracle!
(And really no offence to *can't remember your name* that said it was because Egwene was so good and pure that made her able to heal balefire, I'm just rather beyond stunned by that comment - maybe we simply see that character REALLY differently, but that did blow part of my mind straight out the back of my head - I could have worded that whole thing better though - so sorry if I've upset you - I've even proof read this and I'm still failing at improving it, all I seem to do is make it worse, so I'm going to shut up and just press post now)

EDIT - Turns out I have a creative way of spelling personal ... Also O-Week/Drunk-Week ... I still don't drink ... these guys are just insanely LOUD ... but I'm now at the point where I'm simply going to pass out - I really shouldn't have written this post now - I'm too tired and this probably sounds all grumpy and snarky and so on, but it's not meant to - this is just tired apathy speak more than anything else, I'm not up on any 'high horse' or 'damn I'm right' mission (although I admit I do go on those), I just can't express myself well right now, and when that happens, the last thing you should do is TYPE because it's the best way to be misunderstood - I don't think I could express myself properly in speech, so I don't know why I thought typing up a response to this was a good idea ... but it's done now ... flame away ... I'm going to go pass out ... everyone else, have a nice day ... (and I'm going to go wonder how in the hell I'm going to make it to my first class tomorrow, because these kids are STILL going strong - I guess none of them have first day morning classes they have to attend, and I'm not sure I'll be making mine!) FYI = But yeah - this post does not come with a grumpy/snarky/bitchy/anything negative tone ... My post is tone neutral even if it doesn't seem that way, I really am simply too tired to have an emotion good or bad at the moment, so yeah, tone totally neutral! :) /FYI

While we can see the possibility of foreshadowing through the earlier books, it really did feel VERY tossed in there last minute, and very Un-Jordan. It makes me wonder if that was something Jordan had not had time to finish and Brandon had to figure it out, thus the oddness. I know that when I read it, it was one of those "Srsly..." moments for me because of just how odd it felt, and her just deciding to name it that. Even the writing itself felt awkward and fumbled for that part.

But, also, someone please explain how "Egwene was supposed to break the seals" if she died and Logain did it instead? Or did I miss something.
