So far, I had reread the wot series until crossroads.
It been a month since I read crossroads, and I am still stuck.
Crossroads is... just so... hard to finish.

I can't help.
I didn't have a problem with it, but I know there are many others that had the same issue

I usually get through it by promising myself that the remaining 4 books are a lot better... And listening on audiobook, it makes it a lot easier for me actually...

What helps me is to think of CoT and KoD as one book. CoT is all the setup chapters at the beginning, and KoD is the end of the book when all that setup pays off with action. Sometimes I just skip CoT, though! If you're going to be so discouraged by CoT that you don't reread the rest of the series, I say go ahead and skip straight to KoD. Read the CoT plot summary article in the Library and go on with your life. :rofl

Why do people dislike CoT so much? I’m enjoyed it a lot :look:

Nothing happens. It’s hundreds of pages of setup. It’s more okay now, when the whole series is out and you can just scoot right on into the next book to find out actual things that happen, but when it came out, people had been waiting years to find out answers to the many many questions we had about what was going to happen in all these great plots that we cared about very deeply. Very little happened in Winter’s Heart, either, but at least it ended with the Cleansing. But CoT had nothing. Perrin buys grain. For several chapters. At the time, I was honestly so frustrated that I gave up on the series entirely for several years. I didn’t even read KoD until a couple of years after it had come out, and I only read it then because I was deeply bored and there wasn’t anything else at the tiny library by my house. Obviously, I’m very glad that I did, haha! But yeah, a lot of people’s memories are really colored by that experience.

I just re-read the book summary in the library.
Lots of plots move forward -
the Andoran civil war, Perrin, Faile and the Shaido, Mat and Tuon etc, but they don’t get resolved and a couple at least - Andor and the Shaido are really boring

A lot happened with Egwene’s chapters, especially at the end. I don’t know, maybe things weren’t resolved, and I can understand how hard it must have been when you had to wait for books, but I don’t think Crossroads is that bad.

I thought the cleansing of Saidin was crossroads? and Winter's Heart Rand learns how to cleanse saidin? perhaps I am remembering wrong, but I could have swore that I loved Crossroads because Rand cleansed saidin in it and it was an awesome moment... its been many many years though, so perhaps I do indeed remember wrong.

Saidin is cleansed at the end of Winter’s Heart. The majority of Crossroads is other characters sensing the cleansing because so much Power was being used and going, “What is happening over there?”

And by the time we get to the fourth or fifth plotline reacting to that, I for one are sick of hearing about it and want to just move on with it already...

I just started CoT yesterday and seeing this thread reminds me of my last read-through.
Luckily i'm in the audiobooks so I don't think I'll be bored. But I really remember (even though it must have been almost 10 years ago when I last re-read it) so many groups sensing the cleansing from all over Randland. Something that I'll be thinking about more and more while reading CoT will probably be how Rand figured out how to cleanse saidin. Also other related questions like how does the taint even work?
Lots of thoughts that will help me from the feared 'slump' book.

I have the same trouble with The Shadow Rising and the best way for me to get thru the sloggy parts is to listen to the audiobooks. Otherwise I just stay stuck.

It is hard for me because of Perrin and Faile arc, it is not a bad arc but it's far too long.
