And I can honestly say that I didnt see it ending like it did.

I did not like the ending at all. It really sucked bigtime.

I dont really know what I expected but I think I wanted Rand to be more of a hero. He might finally found peace...but...
And I really wanted to know more about the white- and black tower, how their future played out working together.

I just wanted to know more.
That might had to be another book to cover it all...
There's just so many things I want to know *gah*

    Feel kind of empty actually.

What do you mean by more of a hero? He locked away the Dark One -- isn't that enough? :p

There's lots of unfinished threads, but that was always going to be the case, even if Jordan had lived to finish the series.

He was pretty much invisible during the battle itself though... Mat (and the Seanchan :grumble) is the one who was the hero there...

It wasn't what I expected, but I didn't hate it either. But I'm also not the kind of person who likes an epilogue that wraps everything up neatly. I think the most odd thing for me was Rand wandering off with his magically lit pipe. :look

I actually liked how open ended it was. Mainly because no matter how it ended if it were more detailed, it would upset someone, this way spawns multiple theories of which future would win out. For example, I would be pissed if Mat ended up getting assassinated for being the Empress's husband, but now I can infer that even though the last battle is over, he still has his luck. Also, the many possible futures that were hinted at throughout the series, the Seanchan taking over all of Randland, the Dragon's Peace being broken due to the Aiel having nothing to do, this might still happen, but it also might not. Rand did give the Aiel a job to do in the Dragon's Peace we saw, and it all goes back to the whole point the Dark One and Rand made to each other--the idea of Choice. Free will, if you will ;)

Because of that, the future is wide open and I think that's why it ended like that.

Also I know Min saw things, and that what she sees "always comes true" but honestly, just because she hasn't been wrong yet doesn't mean she will never be wrong. Track records can be broken...

That's EXACTLY how I felt. Like they need an epilogue book, not just an epilogue chapter.

I did like so many things from the last book, but even if I appreciate open endings, it was a bit TOO open for me. Brandon Sanderson and the rest of the team have answered some questions at least, but a lot of things are just unknown and will remain that way forever. So sad.

I'll admit, the thing that annoyed me most is, Lan gets off Mandarb, and we NEVER see the horse again. I want to know, for sure! that the horse made it through the Last Battle! He was one of my favorite horses!

Yeah, WoT does NOT care very much about what happens to the horses! It bugs me too.

The thing that got me the most is, who the hell does Gaidal Cain become when he is reborn? I have a theory that Birgette could be one of Melanie's twin girls because she does say that somewhere a mother is giving birth and she had to go because she was the one being born basically (and Melanie was about to pop at that point) but despite all the hints of ugly little boys we just have no idea who he was born into. :grumble

Well what I meant about Rand being more of a hero.

True, he locked away the dark one...might be as much of a hero as it is possible..
    But still.
Just riding away...no did not like that at all.

    And Bela...WTF was that?
She might have been the most awesome one in the series, been there from the start.

I wanted Rand (and Mat) to fuck up the empress and all her ppl. I thought something like that might happen when Mat asked Arthur to look up Tuon. I REALLY would like to know how that meeting would have turned out.

There was something brandon sanderson said...

    let me find it

    http://www.theoryland.com/intvsresults.php?kwt='hawkwing'

ok: about what artur and tuon would have discussed:

    CHERRY RAVEN (23 JANUARY 2013)
Was wondering why the ending there was no conversation between Hawking and Tuon.
    BRANDON SANDERSON (23 JANUARY 2013)
You're assuming because it wasn't shown on screen, it didn't happen...

    BRENT HOLMES
What happened in the conversation between Tuon and Arthur Hawkwing?!?!

    BRANDON SANDERSON
It was interesting, I'll tell you that much.

    MELISSA HOUGHTON
    Did Hawkwing talk with Tuon?

    BRANDON SANDERSON
    Yes.

    NICK
How do you think Fortuona reacted to speaking with Hawking?

    BRANDON SANDERSON
    With great consternation.

    -----------------------------

    BRANDON SANDERSON (PARAPHRASED)
I also asked if we would ever get to hear the conversation between Hawkwing and Tuon, and he said that it did happen and would have had a great impact on future novels were they to be written.

    ELECTROKINETIC
Not really the answer I was looking for but an interesting revelation.

    ----------------------------

    WETLANDER
Will you confirm now that Rand's sword (received in The Gathering Storm, given to Tam in A Memory of Light) is Hawkwing's sword Justice?

    BRANDON SANDERSON
"Yes, I can now confirm that. It's also my sword." (But in-world, it's Justice.)

    ---------------------

    QUESTION
The [offscreen] conversation between Tuon and Hawkwing, can you tell us anything about that?

    BRANDON SANDERSON
I can tell you that it did take place, and that Hawkwing is more inclined to agree with what's going on in Seanchan than I think what fans expect him to be. Now, remember that Hawking was not fond of Aes Sedai. Part of that was not his fault, but he was not fond of them. He is not just King Arthur, he is Alexander the Great. King Arthur ruled through justice. Artur Hawkwing ruled through justice and ruthlessness. It will certainly be a conversation filled with emotion and passion, but I don't think everyone expecting Hawkwing to take their side is understanding who Artur Hawkwing is.

    ------------------------

    SHILLSTER ()
What did Artur Hawkwing say to Fortuona when Mat sent him over there?
    BRANDON SANDERSON
There were a lot of things discussed here, considering the short time given them. A chastisement for letting his empire fall so far was part of it. Damane were discussed.

    -----------------------

    MOLLY WEISS
All right, so there’s this lady, she rules the people who came from over the sea, married a gambler—kind of a big deal. There’s this dude who appeared when a musical instrument was blown, perhaps the leader of them, perhaps the ancestor of this lady. And they had a conversation at the end. What might have happened in that conversation? What did they discuss?
    BRANDON SANDERSON
So, a lot of people are very curious about this conversation, rightfully so. They had many interesting things to say to one another. And I didn’t put that on-screen on purpose because I think that there are . . . Number one, I feel like it was the wrong place, narrative-wise, to have a break for something like that. And it’s also one of these things that I feel is going to work better in your mind than it might have worked on the page because there are so many places that conversation could have gone, that locking it down into to one of them would not have . . . I don’t think would have fully accomplished what we needed to accomplish there.

Beyond that, the conversation that they have would be directly tied to the sequel series, which is not going to be written. And, you know, I feel that if Robert Jordan were still with us and were going to write that sequel series, that scene would have appeared. He would have had them talk, because that would be important then for character motivation, or at least would have been referenced in the sequel trilogy. But since we’re not doing the sequel trilogy, doing that makes promises, also, that you’re not going to get fulfilled as a reader. And so, leaving that off-screen, I felt, was very much the right move.

That said, a lot of people make the assumption that Artur Hawkwing would be—and I’m not sure why they make this assumption, but I do get this from people—that he would be upset, that he would quote/unquote set her straight, or things like that. I think the conversation would have gone in a very different direction. In a, “You're doing a good job. There are certain things that I would suggest to you, but you need to conquer the work. That’s what your job would be. And here’s some advice on going about it.” Rather than a setting her straight, I think personally he would be proud of her. Granted, you know, now that he has all of his memories back, and he’s no longer under the dark influence that he was under during certain parts of his recent mortal existence, he will not be the exact same person he was back then. But he still is a conqueror, and that’s part of who his make-up is. And so, just keep that in mind as you imagine that scene however you want it to go. And I am still adamant about the fact that I think he would not like Aes Sedai even without the influence upon him. They are not his . . . yeah, he would not want to be involved with them.

There's a good theory going around that Gaidal is Grady's second son.

I like the ending. Feel sorry that Egwene and Siuan had to die, though.

I always thought that he would end up being Olver! I was thinking as I was reading the last book, Olver is going to blow the Horn of Valere, then step out of the hole and lay some BEAT down on some Trollocs. But timelines didn't quite line up for that.

Ain't that timeline in Dream World and real world is different, so it's still possible that it's Olver? :D

No, Olver is not Gaidal. Jordan has said so several times.
