I'm crocheting a shawl but I'm too scared to make a dress after seeing this period costume video: https://www.facebook.com/326393674485613/posts/1003261613465479/?extid=poUaibZN8TRbHw8w&d=null&vh=e
So that's a video historically accurate 18th century. I did that for a Moiraine dress because I'm a historical sewing fiend (nutcase?), but you absolutely do not need to go that far to make a pretty dress! (But if you do want to do that, it's really not so bad. The first thing you would need - the shift - is literally all rectangles and triangles).
The most time consuming part is probably the stays. Once you have those, fitting things over them isn't so bad. Also, 18th century doesn't necessarily fit all WoT characters. If you wanted to go "historically accurate" medieval or Renaissance styles could work too! You still need a shift though
That video was so cool... All the little ties and pieces to add on top... Makes me realize how easy we have it these days... Just pull on some pants - or not, if you work from home.
My sister and some friends and I did a WoT-themed photoshoot recently, and some of the photos turned out quite nicely, I think! We were going for "Sedai & Warders," since none of us had the time, patience, or costume-bits on hand to directly cosplay Moiraine & et al. Spoiler This rad horse is named Lady. Me on the horse. My friend Teague, a Blackfeet man, with me and Lady. Teague, Lady, me, and Rio - portraying here an axe-loving Malkieri. Teague, Lady, me, and Rio.
It was a really fun shoot, but the least challenging part was acquiring and riding a horse. I grew up riding and now live in Montana...I know a ton of people with horses.
I'm planning what I'm hoping will be a Saldaean costume. Divided riding skirt with a short, close cut top and coat. Not sure which boots I'll got with yet. And of course, my shawl. My older costumes do not fit me any more because I got fat in the past 8 years.
