So I'm pretty sure i'm the only one on this site that hasnt finished the second book but yeah i wanna talk about it. So I'm wondering are there any nice reds? They all seem pretty mean. And man haterish. But I'm a guy so maybe it stings a bit more lol :lol

There are not a lot of nice reds. Typically they are very like the ones you have already met in the books. BUT you will come across one or two later on that are not as 'uptight' and single-minded'. There is one specifically in Book 7 that joined Red specifically because she liked men!

Because she LIKED men you say? That's a little odd but I'll just have to wait and read!

A lot of Reds dislike men, and see their role as preventing men from destroying the world again. This will tend to draw in those who share that view, and scare off those who strongly disagree - witness Moiraine's statement that there would be no way Egwene or Nynaeve would choose Red, because they basically like men. Of those who don't share the view, but think Red's role is important enough to join anyway, many are swayed to the disliking men position. It takes quite a lot of strength of character to join Red and still like men, but it isn't impossible

Sorry if its kind of early to say, but its pretty sad that an institution as important to the defense of the world from the Dark One as it is, has allowed so much division to spread. All the stereotypes really anger me, because it reminds me of the stereotypes we assign to groups all over the world.

I thought of it more as like a college major for life. You get to choose one and follow that through. It's a constant process in which you grow and learn in your discipline. There are stereotypes, but no more than what we assign to others as a brain, an athlete, a basket case, a princess, a criminal, what have you. It's natural to gravitate towards what you know and find some common ground, even if that's disliking men or seeking knowledge for all of time or just really liking men. :) Breakfast club, hehehe.

I've already flipped towards the end of the book to find out what happens. I. Must. Know. :blink

Well, when you notice that man-hate, think about how you would feel if the genders were switched :look Most likely, you would not think much of it at all. :cheese

Which is one of the reasons Jordan made it that way :look
