Description

The Keeper, legally known as the Chief Operations Officer, handles the duties as outlined in the Bylaws for the Vice President. The COO is also responsible for running the administration and making sure that it is efficient, effective, and coherent.

Requirements

What matters:
  • Must currently be a Senior Member in good standing.[/*:m:2ttfmp3b]
  • Must have been a Senior Member for at least two years.[/*:m:2ttfmp3b]
  • Must know how to use tactfulness, discretion, and diplomacy.[/*:m:2ttfmp3b]
  • Must have previously served in the administration in some capacity.[/*:m:2ttfmp3b]
  • Must be active within the community.[/*:m:2ttfmp3b]

What doesn't:
  • Your gender.[/*:m:2ttfmp3b]
  • Your nationality.[/*:m:2ttfmp3b]

Duties and Responsibilities

Officers are responsible for a broader, more nebulous set of things that don't lend themselves well to a bulleted list. The Tower Archivist, newly created, is responsible for the legal aspect of keeping us incorporated and compliant. The Shatayan/CFO is responsible for everything financial. The Amyrlin/CEO is the front face of our administration to the membership and to the wider WoT world. The Keeper/COO is the front face of the administration within the administration and is responsible for making sure that the administration is focused towards enacting the vision of the organization as a whole. This position works with all Directors to make sure that the individual Departments are moving towards the goals of those Departments as well as working together to provide a cohesive experience for our members. The Keeper is the main point of contact between the Departments and the Officers and Board of Directors.

This position involves a lot of paperwork and administrative oversight. It's reading and responding to monthly reports, it's talking with Directors on a regular (sometimes daily) basis, it's answering phone calls and texts and emails in a timely fashion, it's regular meetings on Skype or IRC, it's accepting that there will be times when you will be spending more hours than you thought you had in a day working on emergencies, it's being willing to step in and perform any position's duties temporarily.

This position requires a constant, active presence. With the reduced load, I think expecting to spend 15-20 hours a week is accurate, though some weeks it will be less and some weeks it will be more. Travel may occasionally be required, though that happens rarely and is often covered by the organization.

How to Apply

As I mentioned previously, the application process for this will be a little different from other positions. If you would like to apply, you need to email me first at keeper@tarvalon.net. I will send a response that includes a more complete description of the position and its demands and the application itself. If you are interested in applying for this position, you'll need to read that email and seriously think about its contents before you actually apply.

I will accept emails indicating interest until October 25th. After that, we will accept applications until November 8th.

I am stll reeling from this news and am kind if sad. I know lots of time and thought will go into picking a new keeper... Though I feel like butting my nails in worry over it. Even if I have nothing much to do with it. I just don't do well with change and I have always had a lot of respect for you Dralyn. Good luck in all your future plans... Your leaving mighty large shoes to fill.

Dralyn Sedai has been exceptional in regards to preparing for this. :hug
She indicated well over a year ago that such a move would be coming in the near future, and she has progressively worked through letting all of us know so we would have plenty of time to plan. She will be insturmental in chosing the next Keeper. And, she will still be here working on the Board and serving as Board Secretary. We will have a chance to welcome someone new to being VP, and I look forward to working with them! I do, though, think the transition will be as smooth as we could hope for. Dralyn Sedai hasn't left any stones unturned.

Doesn't mean I will miss her any less in this capacity. :(

If you put in "Must be American" as a criteria it'll save you and all the riff raff around the world applying, clogging up the procedure. Just a thought- don't be thinking Pip doesn't think of his administrators! :nono

:p

Congratulations on the four wondrous years, Dralyn.
