I feel like we'll get there with the battle cries. I had to wait for the story of Manetheren, but they got there eventually. :pleased-1:

Heartily seconding everyone’s thoughts about the excellent Lan/Nynaeve content! When he tied her to the tree, I cracked up—he really knows how to romance a lady. And the bit where Nynaeve is gathering herbs and she’s like, uh, you don’t have to keep following me: so great! Girl, he is clearly into you!

Is there anything particularly significant about the crystal the Aiel was carrying? I assume the carved critter made him a Stone Dog :cheeseeni: but wasn't sure it there was anything special about the pretty purple rock that caught Mat's eye.

I just realized that the whole back room scene with Rand and Dana is the following:

D : Yeah, nope, you're not gonna break that down and nobody can hear you!

R: *totally shocked* ok, why did the door just break down then?! Yep, no time to process THAT bit of info, ok, time to run while I can!

Ah, stone dog makes much more sense. I was thinking that it was a wolf figurine, for Perrin, and the crystal somehow a symbol of Rand (Callandor)? Symbolizing his connection to the other ta'veren, but I feel like I'm overthiknking it.

im sorry but Sam Elliot is still breathing so any other choice for Thom is wrong, and i will forever be salty about it.
I agree 100%, Katherine. I still can see Sam Elliott as Thom.

I have to say I did not like book Nynaeve. I always found her annoying, especially at these early points. However. I LOVE TV Nynaeve. She is sarcastic, confident, and badass.
Same here. I never really liked Nynaeve in the books, even after she "redeemed" herself. She always came across as stubborn and taciturn. The TV one, though...she's a badass! I can get behind this Nynaeve!

I'm up to date and I loved all three episodes. I love seeing the lead up to some things we know are going to happen, and I have a question about something that happened in Four Kings(?) with the dead Aiel, but I want to see the next episode to see where they're going with that first.

they've condensed a lot of separate village stops into one, at Breen's Spring. It gets a throwaway line in EotW, so makes sense to be the one to grab. "Mining Town #4" doesn't have any built-up expectations for readers to be unnecessarily disappointed by, lol.

Third-ing the Nynaeve reaction. I don't like her for a long time on re-reads, but THIS Nynaeve? I stan immediately.

I think a sudden brutal attack wouldn't elicit battle cries. It was sudden and bloody before they knew what hit them

Quick thing... :look: Egwene and Perrin not knowing who the Tinkers are? :facepalm I get exposition, I get that we have to communicate things to viewers and new people who are completely unfamiliar with what it all is. But why dumb the characters down for the sake of the exposition? There is no way they wouldn't have heard stories of the Tinkers, at least. There must have been another way to describe who they are...

That's true, but there will be other chances, I think. I was disappointed at first when Moiraine didn't tell the Emond's Fielders about Manetheren (It's my favorite scene in the first book), but when she told them about it because of a song on the road, I liked that too.

Aram wasn't annoying enough, and I feel like we need Elyas.

Honestly how were we supposed to know they were tinkers, their clothes and wagons did not stand out. That is the first thing people say about tinkers, not the stupid song. The song is a more afterthought. It’s the colors for me!

Specifically, Perrin and Egwene, if nobody else in Emond's Field. Egwene because the Inn likely had rules around Tinkers, and heard LOTS of talk and rumour about all kinds of people. Perrin because Tinkers practice essentially back yard blacksmithing, and any smith worth the boots on their feet would know about non-blacksmith craftsmen. Just my opinion, though.

Mat is sooo cute lol I love him to bits. I’m sad he’s going to have a new actor.
Me too ... I quite like this Mat.

Nynaeve and Lan were always the "it" couple in the books for me. Any time there were interactions, I read and re-read and re-read again. I'm in 100% adoration-mode after watching the show parts with them in it. :D
I adore Zoë as Nynaeve and think she is just so amazing. And I love Daniel as Lan. I am 1000000% into this relationship.

I think Rand might have channeled the One Power for the first time here?! When he broke down the ironwood door that 3 people cannot break...
I also agree he was channeling. It's not lightning or whatever that happens in the book, but it's definitely got to be the One Power.

Already hating Liandrin. But I love how they incorporated the book character’s braids into the hairstyle without having the blonde actress looking culturally appropriative. Very cleverly done. Best view is when she looks towards Logain

I was re-watching S1E3 tonight and me and my partner both noticed something just a little bit strange about the mining happening in Breen's Spring. A lot of what's getting examined and used in the background doesn't really feel like ore ... it looks like slag, or scrap. He's wondering if they're not "mining" so much as scavenging like Rey was doing to the fallen Star Destroyers in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Interesting theory!

Ara, I don't think they ever actually say it's a mining town in the episode. Dana's speech talks about "digging in the dirt, until one day they cover you in it." So yeah, might not actually be mining at all.

On the episode, I really liked a whole episode centered around character development that took its time. I wondered for awhile if they would always have to have some obvious display of channeling in every ep or something like that. I liked that Egwene's fire starting was really played as "did she or didn't she?"

I do hope that before we get Rand properly channeling we get some kind of reference to the flame and the void. We got a nice description for Egwene that works like the flower metaphor in the books, so maybe we'll get something similar when Lan and Rand meet back together again.

I like the new Thom, but I was never all that invested in the book Thom. This guy has a grizzled, well-traveled personality I am interested to see the show take in its own direction.

And my favorite scene in this one is absolutely Lan's can't-help-but-be-impressed "You really would have killed me."
