I think this is the very first lackluster thing I've seen from the show. But it's just one poster, so meh.

Trollocs actually look vaguely alright from what little we see so far.

Better than I was fearing anyway.

Thanks for posting this Natalya, I just watched it in the NYCC live.
here is the youtube link:

Thanks, I hate it

ETA: I do not like the SCENE and the way they introduce Lan and Moiraine.
However, I really like the setting, the inn... I can never imagine what an inn's common room looks like, so this is a really nice representation

Yeah, not a fan. Hopefully that was just the "big deal introduction" part, and the rest of the scenes are better. The trailer parts seemed better.

My hopes and standards lowered now :(

This Winespring Inn is definitely more stoney and castle-like than I'd imagined, but that's just a creative decision. Can't nitpick too much.

Moiraine was introduced in a more casual manner in the books though, wasn't she? Or am I misremembering.

I don't think that people were that suspicious of her until the dragon's fang went up on the inn door, but I also think if they're going to reveal her as Aes Sedai right off the bat that the suspicion worked. I was kind of surprised that the first few responses were so negative, it was about what I expected it to be. I liked that Nynaeve was the one who stepped forward to challenge Lan. That would be her to a T, she would have had a good knobbly stick though. :tug

it’s not terrible, but I find it a bit odd that a myrdraal is given such prominence. eh. trying to do something dramatic or attention grabbing, perhaps.
I actually like that they are making the myrdraal look like the big bad. They can't show Baalzamon yet. Its a nice little bait-and-switch.

I remember in the books when the boy (Ewan? or close) suggested that the Lady might possibly be Aes Sedai and everyone scoffed at him…

but if I separate this in my head from the books then I liked it reasonably well. there are some nice touches, personally. is it my ideal? no, but it’s growing on me.

edit: I did really like Nynaeve being the one to challenge Lan.

We don’t really see Moiraine arrive, if I remember correctly. We’re just told that an Aes Sedai is there. I don’t think we really meet her until she heals Tam.

I kinda agree about how she’s portrayed. She’s portrayed kinda pompous and a dash rude. Hopefully it’ll make more sense in context and how she’s portrayed later on.

hm, that’s a good point. and that dark rider certainly instills enough fear into the boys to begin with.

Also didn’t love it! When they came into the inn, it was very An Ominous Event Is Happening, which I found annoying. Like, it’s just two people walking into an inn. We don’t need the mood music!

Agreed, not just like the books but I do like it as long a I don't do a direct comparison.

Also, yay Nynarve & Lan!

I hope everyone will watch it charitably and not nitpick every detail that isn't exactly like the books...just try to enjoy it for what it is. That being said, I liked it and I can't wait to watch! :D

I actually enjoy it being a questionable experience. People of the world, especially small town folks, are suspicious of Aes Sedai. And I think Nynaeve, being an unwitting channeled, recognizes the threat better than anyone else, which explains the head whip and hand on her knife the entire scene.

Oh, sorry, I wasn’t clear—I was fine with people being suspicious of them. What I didn’t love was the tone of the scene and how the show was all “Alert! Alert! Ominous music!!!!”

I actually quite like the scene, with allowances for lack of surrounding scenes. Love that Nynaeve is suspicious of Moiraine from the first moment, and that Egwene is more curious and intrigued. And how awesome is Lan? "I'm Lan Mandragoran. This is Moiraine." King.

I don't know how I feel about this scene! I think it will feel more right in context, when we see it halfway through the first episode. The first time I watched it, I was worried it might be a bit... overdone? Specifically Moiraine and Lan's entrance and dialogue. But, my partner, who hasn't read the books, loved it. So, I wonder if my initial unease was more to do with it not matching the tone of Moiraine's introduction in the books. I rewatched it a few more times and I like it more each time I see it.

One thing that stood out to me as particularly good was Rand, Egwene, and Perrin's acting. I was really concerned that the actor playing Rand wouldn't get the character right, but I thought he did an excellent job here. So, even though I'm a little nervous about the tone, I feel way more confident about the acting than I did before. I can't wait to see the whole thing in context!
